About the Game

Tap: Maxs Game is the first independent film ever made about Magic: the Gathering, a card game played by over 6 million players worldwide, made by Wizards of the Coast. It is also an epic sports drama about fulfilling one's dreams, an undying friendship between five Magic players that parted ways years ago, and the last opportunity to reclaim all that was once lost...

Maxs Game began only as a thought, when the director, Kamil Beer, was listening to the Rocky IV soundtrack, imagining what would be going on if there was a sports drama about Magic the gathering. And now, there are over 30 people, actors and technicians alike, collaborating to the film, all unpaid. Oh, yes - it is a non-profit movie, made just for the entertainment of our viewers. And its almost finished.

We would like to take the film to movie festivals and then release for free on the web.

The film is made in cooperation of Czech artists: 2D Studio and The Audiovisual centre of ?VUT college, along with several other freelance artists. The musical score is composed by Stanislav Ferko, responsible for the musical "Srdce", music festival "Srdcefest" and frontman of the band Butterfly Kiss.

Playing the Game

Several years ago, Karel Adam and his four best friends were the top players in a Magic club Fireball, having the time of their lives. They needed nothing and still had it all - they had each other.

However, these times are long over. The Fireball gang had shattered, and the club was sold. Only Karel visits the closed club, remembering the great times he had.

By coincidence, he sees some players in a caf playing his favourite game, and so he asks himself a question: if Can you stop being someone who have you been all the time?

And the answer changes his card career forever...

Why would you want to watch Maxs Game?

In the world of Magic: the Gathering, fantasies come true, and we believe that sometimes, even in the real world, this happens too. As the first movie about Magic: the Gathering, we are focusing on the subject that most Magic players have experienced one time in their lives. You played Magic with your friends, then everybody moved on. But what if you are missing the old times? What if there is a part of you that got stuck back there?

 

Maxs Game is a sports drama, focusing both on the challenge of rekindling old friendships and becoming a great Magic player. People appreciate stories about them, about the underdog, who tries to become the best against all odds. While the story is about Magic, there is a lot of everyday symbolism in the movie for those who would like to find it.

Karel Adam is the underdog here and you can connect with the character, disappointed and sad, alienated by his old friends with the fear of losing them again - and then deciding to take his second chance...

How can you help? Why do we need help?

We would like to take Maxs Game to alternative cinemas and film festivals all over the world. We want to bring it into peoples attention - advertising, hanging out posters, and creating some unique merchandise for our fans! DVDs, T-shirts, posters. Everything is planned. We strongly believe that Maxs Game can stand its own like any other movie!

A normal entry fee for one screening here, in Czech republic, costs about 1000$. So yeah... we could really use some help here. It would mean the world for us.

We want to screen Maxs Game at least three times in Czech republic and at least two times in Slovak republic. Then, in specific cities all over the world. Also, film festivals sometimes charge large fees for entries, not to mention the overall advertisement costs.

You help is always appreciated. Were doing this film with a lot of passion and ability, but with little resources available. What we can do for you, however, is that we can send you some of the cool stuff around the movie, be it a DVD, a signed poster, all still photography, thanks in the credits, a Producers credit, and thats just the normal stuff. Would you like some very limited edition original movie props, such as authentic card decks of the Fireball gang? A personal greeting on the first screening- Hell, would you like to have your flight into the heart of Europe, Prague, and see it all for yourself from the VIP section?
