Turning World Orchestra (TWO) is a unique project in many ways. Designed to be a touring live production, as well as the usual CD recording options, TWO recreates western rock/pop rhythms using instruments from many cultures. These aren’t your mother’s cover versions! The songs we select are focused on the major issues of our time: war, human rights, refugees, environment, etc. Using western rhythms, we translate the songs with sitar, tabla, mbira, djun-djun, riq, bagpipes and other instruments from around the world – making the songs accessible to audiences everywhere.
Those things which separate us are far less than those which bring us together.
The goal of TWO is to travel internationally, bringing the world together through this unique sound and spreading the message of a global village. All performances and merchandise will benefit a selected global organization, working to improve the plight of those who struggle with some of the world’s crises.
The core group of musicians are well-known in our local community, have decades of experience playing and performing and are working hard at arranging the songs to fit that western beat to their instruments (it’s really not as easy as it sounds!).
As we move through the musical process of sourcing, composing, arranging and recording the songs, we are also working towards creating the full live production for stage.
To complement the musical foundation of TWO, visual elements such as graphics and videos on the back stage screen will carry the message, power and beauty of the lyrics to the audience.
Dancers from various world disciplines: whirling dervishes, African styles, Japanese butoh, bellydancers, will be included to stimulating visual effect. Wearing “live art” costumes – fiber optic clothing that is reactive to the music brings an inventive and fun element to the performance.
This audio-visual feast for the senses will leave audiences moved and stimulated. The power of the songs, combined with the rocking good sounds will have audiences on their feet.
Turning World Orchestra brings a level of performance that is both emotional and physical – a never to be forgotten experience!
We already have interest from international conferences and gatherings, as well as potential guest musicians, but we need your help to get a demo to them to hear what we’re about.
