Our Story:
I LOVE dessert. Really. I cant get through a day without some sort of sweet treat. Then a few years ago, I discovered my intolerance to dairy, soy, and gluten. What?! Suddenly there were very few sweet treats available that wouldnt destroy my system. Distraught, I couldnt even turn to milk and cookies for comfort! Even the real fruit ice pops at the grocery store were made from sticky syrups and concentrates. Determined to find a sweet I could eat, I set out to recreate a healthy dairy, soy, and gluten free version of my favorite childhood comfort food: popsicles.
Armed with my determination to eat sweets again and my Zoku popsicle maker, I got to work. Having studied pastry making at Le Cordon Bleu in Paris, I thought surely I could craft a simple ice pop. I must admit that my first few attempts didn't go quite as planned. But after a couple years' practice, I finally honed the perfect pops. Dessert for me was saved! Milk and cookies could "suck it." And so the idea was born.
The Concept:
I know there are many more of you out there with food sensitivities or health concerns AND a sweet tooth, so I bring you Suck It gourmet ice pops made from all-natural ingredients: no artificial colors, flavorings, additives, or preservatives. We also have a plethora of Vegan options as well. Finally, a healthy guilt-free dessert for all!
Located in the heart of Studio City, CA in the famed Tujunga Village, Suck It is perfectly positioned across the street from the lovely (and always packed) Aroma Cafe', down the street from iconic Vitellos, and just a quick jaunt from all the major studios.
The Impact:
We at Suck It are committed to supporting the community. We will support area farmers by obtaining our produce from local farmers markets. Additionally, as an animal lover I am passionate about animal rescue, so I am also offering puppy pops--sweet treats for your furry friends from which all proceeds will benefit local rescue programs.
Why We Need Your Support & What You Get:
This dream is so close to being realized. Weve got the recipes, the location, and have found the perfect ice pop machine, but banks are not offering loans to businesses during this economic slump. You may only obtain a loan if your business has been in operation for at least three years. Construction is set to commence March 1st, 2011. And now we really need your help.
So it is with a humble heart that I ask you, my friends, for support in making Suck It the greatest sweet shop in L.A. since Sprinkles.
There are only 2 places in the world that make these specialty machines. (shhh-trade secret)
Shipment of equipment: $800
From far far away
Construction: $18,000
To bring kitchen, restroom & AC up to code
Recycled, eco-friendly displays and decor: $4,000
Reclaimed wood, earth-friendly paint, energy efficient equipment
Start-up Ingredients: $1,200
