A Modern Romance

Strings is about intimacy and distance. It is about knowing what you want to say but not being able to find the words. The story concerns two teenagers, a boy and a girl, best friends and contemplating life apart as they leave for university (Coming of age). Grace is a German girl studying in England, whilst her parents marriage falls apart back home. Jon is an introspective and emasculated boy who vents his emotions through writing songs that he shares with nobody but Grace.

After a drunken rendezvous, they begin a secret relationship spanning the whole summer. They experiment in sex and decadence, revelling in the freedom of casual free from the expectations and judgement of their friend circles. But despite their physical intimacy, they find themselves incapable of truly connecting and dropping the faade they construct for the world.

They hold onto a brief moment of unity, and then it is gone. They part ways without saying a word.
