Then
Back in late 2010, a group of like-minded, creative geeks from Vancouver got together and decided to make a webseries - and not just any webseries, a webseries that celebrated nerd culture, independent filmmaking, and the wonders that can be achieved when passion meets talent and drive. Standard Action was born, and soon the exploits of hilariously inept adventurers Wendy, Martin, Edda and Fernando had grown into a fully-fledged, beautifully produced first season, gaining a fan following and taking its place as one of the best-looking low-budget webseries on the net.
Now
When people watch the first season of Standard Action (which has one epic episode left to be released), they tend not to realize that it was created with what's considered in the film industry as "no" budget. Entirely self-funded by producer Joanna Gaskell and her team of cast and crew, it was a small-scale passion project that turned into something more impressive than any of them anticipated. It caught the the attention of fans all over the world, and they continue to be invited to conventions all over North America to screen the show and talk about their unconventional process.
Now that the team is finished the first season, ideas are bouncing around for the second. The crew is ready, the cast is psyched - but, can we continue? Can we make another season about our four intrepid adventurers, and allow the phenomenon that is Standard Action to continue, bigger and better? Unfortunately, the answer is a resounding no. Without the funds, the story can't continue, no matter how much we want it to. You can help. Go to www.watchstandardaction.com and take a look at our first episode. Then take a look at our most recent. Our production value, acting, look, costumes, makeup, art design and writing started out great, and every element is now better. Just think what your money would do, and how much we as a team - growing in our talent and ability - could do with the funding. You would be helping to bring one of the web's best fantasy series back for a second season that would blow the first one out of the water.
Plus, we've put together a pretty exciting, unique list of perks over on the right side - and they'll be changing all the time! We want to reward you for supporting us!
The Future
What are we going to do with the money? Good question. Some of our goals for second season include a whole new set of locations for our team to explore - indoor and outdoor. We want a new collection of monsters, inspired by your favourite geeky RPGs and video games. The team needs an upgrade in terms of costume, weaponry, and gear, and we want to be able to bring you more of what you want to see - more magic, more battles, and bigger, more epic story.
Our goal is another full-length second season of 12 episodes, each ten to fifteen minutes in length, all continuing to be free and available online. If we don't make our goal for funding, we have a few other ideas - a mini-series of less episodes, some fun and exciting shorts and music videos, and more Random Encounters. If it comes to that, and we're unable to fund an entire second season, we'll come to you, the people who have donated to us, for input on what you want to see. Standard Action is for you and for us, and we'll work together to make something you'll love to watch and share.
This IndieGoGo fundraiser is the first prong of our multi-pronged fundraising approach. With this money we will be able to commit to a new season - but to make Season 2 the way we want to make it, we are going to be looking for more than $10000, and we'll be looking to get it through merchandising, corporate sponsorship, advertising, product placement... whatever we can do to increase our total. The more we get, the bigger and better Season 2 will be!
Other Ways to Help
Tell your friends! Tell your family! Tell your gaming group or your raid party! If you can only give five or ten dollars, we understand - what we need are more people seeing the series, and understanding the value that comes from donating to us. We will keep putting content here on the IndiGogo page as well as on our website, so keep coming back and sharing our stuff around on social media or among the geeks in your life. You probably underestimate how much this helps us!
