Stand-Up Comics is being performed as part of the Camden Fringe on the 8th and 9th of August at the Roundhouse: Studio Theatre, London. Tickets will be 7.50
To suit the subject matter it will be infused with a bombastic comic book look. We're hoping to mix TV, theatre and comics really interestingly so that anyone coming, who's only really been exposed to the sitcom part of the equation can experience the other parts and hopefully be inspired to watch more plays or pick up a comic.
Stand-Up Comics will be the third Sigil Club production utilising people from past shows as well as some new, hilarious actors. We're a small independent company run by two producers making a variety of theatre.
Stand-Up Comics Blurb
Liam, Kris and Liz have been brought together by the comics they read, sell and write to avoid the responsibilities of the real world. But with Liam's attraction to his artist causing him writer's block and Kris' jealousy preventing him from insulting the customers' poor taste, will they be able to remain together? Sensing the friends drifting apart Liz refuses to let anyone escape until they've dealt with their problems.
With jokes, fights and gravediggers abound, the staff at Stand-Up Comics certainly have issues.
What Your Money Will Be Spent On:
- Set--We need a couple of shelves, tables, a desk to make the stage look like the interior of a comic book store.
- Special Effects---We'll going to mark sound effects, captions, comic panels out of card so we need some art supplies.
- A remote controlled car---Not a joke.
- Advertising--- We're hoping to make a couple of poster designs based on the above image or as homages to famous comic covers. We'll also be printing flyers and if we raise enough funds, take out an ad on the Camden Fringe website.
We've budgeted quite tightly and the $500 minimum we can ask for on indiegogo should allow us to do most of what we want to do, if we somehow manage to raise any more the money will be spent on sturdier furniture, more advertising and will help us pay off our Fringe entry fee.
In the past the company have broken even, usually by keeping to a tight budget. Having this small amount of money to invest will allow us to make a better looking show and make it more likely for us to be able to pay the actors. I write and direct because it's an absolute joy to have people see my work, but I hate that I haven't been able to pay back the dedicated, brilliant actors who work with me and dedicate their time to a project because they believe in the material. Any amount you donate will allow me to keep doing what I love and reward the hard work of those who make it come to life.
Youll have noticed that a lot of our incentives are geared towards Thank Yous and materials rather than tickets or hooks to get people to come watch the play.
Weve done this because The Sigil Club has always had a lot of
support from busy people around the country or even abroad and with
Stand-Up Comics being performed in Summer many more of our usual fans
may be away.
Now were allowing those people who cant come to still help any way
they can or get something out of the project be it memorabilia or our
eternal gratitude.
And if you are able to come see what is shaping up to be a really cool show, then there are a couple of ticket options.
As stated the incentive we think is most interesting is the chance to
have your name or the name of a loved one within the play (imagine
bringing a date and have us say his/her name on stageonly to be
mocked).
Theres a scene in the play where Liam and Kris talk about their regular
customers and the script currently has space for us to talk about three
people. You can be one of those people. Its almost fame and much more
fame than a reality show.
