A hilarious, heart-breaking comedy about acceptance and family. After a freak accident kills their parents, Liz, Chris and David- once close siblings- are torn apart, especially after David comes out of the closet. New knowledge of their parents’ will brings Chris and Liz back together to plan a “gay intervention” for David. Sweeping their own families up in David’s “surprise” homecoming, Liz’s son Jason gets the chance to save the day.
My name is Briney Dillon, the writer and director of this film. As an American, I came to South Africa with little knowledge of this strange and spectacular country. What I have observed here, besides the picturesque mountains, sparkling oceans, and zebras, lions and sharks, is the dichotomy between thought and action: the most democratic nation in the world with widespread poverty, the largest AIDS population, and little tolerance for homosexuality. South Africans are a beautiful, intelligent and warm people that seem helpless to figure out how to unite, to pull this country up from its knees and onto its feet. The inconsistencies were fascinating, so I set out on a mission to represent these truths in an interesting and humorous way. What came about was this film, about a family struggling to love and accept one another in the face of crisis and pain. It is also about growing up, laughing it off and leaving the past behind (something many hope the South African government will do).
I am proud to say we have completed the shoot! I was able to work with a fantastic cast and crew set in Cape Town, South Africa. This six month project began with the help of the ACT Cape Town acting/film school and now needs some help from you! I am in need of funding for editing and post-production. A small donation could work wonders. This film will be entered in film festivals around the world. Thank you for the time you have taken to read this and even more thanks for assisting me in accomplishing a dream.
