Our Story

Deaf-on-deaf violence is a serious but little known social issue. Studies at Galludet University show that it is statistically higher than in domestic violence in the general population. In 2009, we worked with a local film studio to film this short with a powerful social message. Sadly, the footage became irretrievable when the studio went bankrupt and closed its doors. We feel the subject matter of this project is too important to simply abandon.

The Impact

Mainstream media hardly (if ever) addresses the issue of deaf-on-deaf violence. It is our hope that we can enlighten the public through creative narrative and bring more attention and understanding to the issue. Our plan is to get our short film into various festivals and other media venues with the pertinent information about this issue. If our little movie wins awards and gets more recognition, all the better! Failing that, we can always post it on YouTube to get the message out. But we have to make it first!

What We Need & What You Get

We have learned from experience that you get what you pay for. In 2009, we managed to work with a studio who offered us free labor on the project. In the end, we paid nothing and we got nothing. We realized to make sure the project gets made right and stays under our control, we need to pay talent and crew, including the screen writer, ASL signers, director of photography, and professional video editor. Add to this the expense of submitting the movie to festivals (whose entry fees can range from $35 - $100). Then there are promotional costs (print and viral) and travel. Contributions of $10 will get a CoA (Certificate of Appreciation). $100 will earn a film credit plus a CoA. $1000 will earn an up-front Executive Producer's credit, CoA, and complimentary DVD of the movie. Above all, we hope contributors obtain the "feel good" sensation of helping us make a movie with an important social message!
