Our Story
So You Want Blood, the title came from the first live MMA event I ever attended. I was at The Myth in Maplewood scouting Marcus Levesseur in 2007, he suggested I make a documentary about him and how MMA helps him. The crowd was revved, you could feel the energy in the air. It was an amazing event. Between fights the ring announcer at one point asked the crowd "So You Want Blood!" and the crowd went crazy. Marcus won quickly and I was convinced there was a story to tell, I just wasn't sure what it was at the time, but I had the title that night.
Being completely new to the sport and spent a couple years getting random footage of Marcus training, interviews from people in and around the sport, and capturing some fight footage. Basically I was getting my foot in the door and familiar with the sport. I got to know the promoters, gym owners, the variety of fight clubs and individual fighters. Everything began to take focus one Saturday in Jan of 2010 in Fargo North Dakota. I met the owner of The Academy of Combat Arts, Dylan Spicer, Nick Thompson(former Bodog Champ), future UFC fighter Pablo Garza and a couple other fighters. I covered Nick's MMA seminar for the documentary prior to that evenings fights. After the seminar with several hours to kill I was invited to have lunch with Nick, Dylan, and the ACA fighters. Listening to their stories during lunch opened my eyes, sharing some of my information I learned and getting feedback from them, I suddenly had focus. All that time getting interviews, covering fights, capturing the training took shape and I spent 2010 knowing what I wanted and capturing it on camera.
The Impact
Everything costs money, gas to get from city to city, camera rentals, and shooting is nearly complete, but that isn't where the challenge is. We still have all the post production costs to go though. Editing, graphics, music composition, DVD authoring all add up. I want this documentary to get out there, but more importantly, the fighters want this out there to show what the sport of MMA is really all about. We want to inform the masses who don't understand the sport to see and understand that this is a real sport, with real training, real sacrifices. The money raised during this campaign will help get this released.
What We Need & What You Get
We are raising 3000 dollars to get us to the finish line and when you contribute your money to this project, you are getting something in return.
Other Ways You Can Help
You don't have to send money in to help. Get a group of friends together to pitch in a little bit and collect on the perks. If you have a website or know people who do, share the widget. Tell your friends about this and have them tell their friends. If you belong to a gym or dojo let everyone there know about So You Want Blood. Pass the word on Facebook, Myspace, whatever social media sites you use. The important thing is letting people know this documentary is on the verge of becoming reality.
