Our Story
My name is Charysse Tia Harper and I am the director/producer of Xplore the World's documentary entitled The Other Side of Carnival. Good news: the project has been accepted into a film festival in New York City. Bad news: we (the publicity manager and I) do not have the funds to get over there in April! And this why we are on IndieGoGo.We are looking to raise $1100. That will take care of the flights, the payment for the designer to make the poster, printing/mounting the poster, multiple copies of the press kit (which will include a DVD copy of the trailer) and an HD version of the documentary on DVD (as we already have an SD one).
Though we will be taking small steps to get to the Big Apple, we will GET THERE!!!
The Impact
The Other Side of Carnival
is a 45-minute documentary that looks at the history of Carnival in
Trinidad & Tobago, and how the event impacts the social and economic
conditions in the country. We (the crew) have been working on this
since Dec. 2007. It was finished in January 2010. We been accepted into
our first film festival, the New York Independent International Film
and Video Festival.
If our campaign goal does not happen, we will not be able to go to New York to publicize the project.
Yes, people can still see the documentary, but not having at least one
of us to talk about the film, will greatly diminish our chances of
having it picked up for distribution.
What We Need & What You Get
We need $1100. The most important thing to do is buy the flights. Right now, flights are around $320. But, of course, they will get more expensive as the day gets closer. So even if both of us cannot go, one person will make the journey. So let's use this scenario: we obtain $700. One ticket is bought and the rest will be used for the press kit, poster and HD DVD. It makes no sense to go to NYC without those things, so, if need be, someone will have to be left behind for the betterment of the crew and the project.
By helping us, you will not only be thanked in the Q&A after the screening at the film festival, but you will also receive a copy of the press kit.
Other Ways You Can Help
I understand the economy is hard on everyone. But as the saying goes, "everything helps." Even if you can only contribute $1, that will go a long way!!! You can also tell other people about this campaign, as well as the project itself. You can direct people to the Facebook page, they can follow us on Twitter and even watch some videos on Vimeo! The fact of the matter is that the more people know about us, the better our chances are to achieve our goal!
We are also having a fundraisers from now until we leave in April. Keep an eye on the Facebook page and Twitter for specifics.
Please note: Xplore the World is the production company for The Other Side of Carnival. Please note that when you make your PayPal donation, it will go to Xplore the World.
