JUBEI, the mythical samurai of Japanese folklore, is on a mission to avenge the destruction of both his village and family. He uncovers the culprit, TOBOSAKU, an evil sage possessing mystical powers, and tracks him down to his lair. After an intense battle, Jubei thinking he has defeated the wizard lets his guard down for one fatal blow, a powerful spell imprisoning Jubei in hell. 500 years pass and we are now in contemporary Japan. Two rival Yakuza clans are waging a gang war on the very same spot where Jubei was cursed. Unknowingly OZU, a yakuza boss, unleashes the demon incarnation of Jubei loose on earth, temporarily freeing him of the curse but also binding his soul with the samurai. Another problem is that Demon Jubei is a killing machine and needs to constantly absorb souls to stay alive or else he returns to the pits of Hell. The only way for Jubei to reverse the curse is to slay Tobosaku, who Jubei assumes is already dead. Its only when Ozu pleads with the Demon to rescue his sister, AZUMI, from the rival Yakuza clan that Jubei realizes Tobosaku somehow is still alive. A final confrontation will decide the fate of not only the two warriors, but of the entire existence of reality, as we know it.
