Silly Kingdom at Comic-Con

Because dreams can come true!

Update: June 27, 2011

We are FUNDED! In less than 4 days you guys have helped us hit our Indiegogo comic project goal! We are completely blown away THANK YOU! ? Every extra bit of funding will go into the book, packaging and shipping of the rewards, and future reprints of this project. Thank you so much for your support! We could not have done this without you.

Who are we?

Katie Shanahan is a cartoonist from Toronto, Canada. She's worked in the animation industry for the past 5 years as a storyboard artist, animator and designer, and keeps an active online presence with frequent art and comic updates.

Steven "Shaggy" Shanahan is a motion graphic animator, video editor, and compositor, who's early interest in radio plays lead to him creating a humorous audio short in 2005, called Silly Kingdom.

About "Silly Kingdom" the radio play

The first chapter, titled "Alengrimrickshaw's 211th Birthday", follows the efforts of a cheerful Princess, a power hungry Prince, and a clever Jester, as they attempt to put on a birthday celebration for the Kingdom's ancient and crotchety jerk-of-a-wizard, Alengrimrickshaw. Sufficed to say, things take a turn for the explosive!

Following the audio drama, many more short stories set in the world of Silly Kingdom have been written, and now, they are ready to be told with the launching of Katie and Shaggy's newest collaborative comic, Silly Kingdom.

About "Silly Kingdom" the comic!

Taking inspiration from the radio play, the comic will be a 32 page (approx) black and white inked humor fantasy illustrated by Katie and written by Shaggy. Suitable for all audiences (of awesome readers!)

With published works printed in critically acclaimed comic anthologies ("Flight" volumes 7 and 8, "The Anthology Project" volume 2 and "Side B: A Music Lover's Comic Anthology"), Silly Kingdom marks the Shanahan sibling's first self published work, which they aim to premier at the upcoming San Diego Comic-Con and Tr!ckster in July.

What We Need & What You Get

The accumulated price of printing the first run of Silly Kingdom books ($600), the flight from Toronto to San Diego and back ($1,260), and accommodations for the convention ($840) is a bit of a strain on a freelancer artist's budget. The whole endeavor is going to run us a total of $3,100.

This is why we've decided to turn to IndiGoGo (and you guys!) in hopes of raising the funds to get this project off the ground. In return for your support we'll reward you with a bevy of perks, such as shout-outs, buttons, prints, original art commissions (fan-art, yourself drawn in Katie's style, whatever you want!) and of course, the comic itself.

We are also offering access to a new live stream series called Shanahanigans which will follow the behind-the-scenes of our present and future comic projects.  Watch Katie draw, hear Shaggy yammer on, and you the viewer can get involved with questions, and maybe even requests!

You can also get access to the Silly Kingdom art blog, where you can follow the progress from thumbnails to final page, see the evolution of character and location design, and gain insights into the comic making process.

What if we exceed our goal?

That would be fantastic! Every extra bit of money will go into packaging and shipping of the comics and rewards to you guys! Anything above that will go into printing more Silly Kingdom books in the future, so we can bring them around to other comic convention we'll be attending!

What if we don't meet our goal?

We're still going to print this comic because we're both really excited about it. It'll just take us longer to build up some money to mail out all the comics and rewards as shipping fees will have to come from our own pockets.

Questions? Comments?

Please feel free to drop us a line and we'll get back to you as quickly as possible! Katie can be reached at shanahan(dot)katie(at)gmail.com and Shaggy at shaggyshan(at)uberfriendship.com
