Our Story

In a small Colorado mountain town, Amos Percival, a 75-year-old man is found dead in his truck on the bank of the Arkansas River. Two morticians, Jeb and Linc, are called to pick up Amos's body and are asked to preform an autopsy prior to embalming.  During the autopsy the morticians discover shiny things resting in Amos's stomach.

Please give Jeb and Linc a chance to discover Amoss shiny things and help Amos keep what is dear to him. These shiny things are Amos's most significant objects!!!

The ImpactOur Shoot dates are March 17 21, 2011.

SHINY THINGS, a Colorado Film School thesis project for 16MM/HD Production being filmed on the RED camera and secondary film camera using super 16MM film.

The director of our film is Colorado Film School student, Devin Hume of Burnt Rabbit Films. Devins last film Woebegone, received six awards at film festivals in Colorado and Pennsylvania.  We believe the success of this project will go further than his last.

This project allows students to closely interact and bring our work to industry standards, extending our educational experience outside of the classroom.

Shiny Things is being shot on location in the beautiful town of Florence, Colorado.  The town offers amazing cinematic value and has a citizenry enthusiastic for the enrichment of the arts.  The relationships and support of this town equal collaborative filmmaking and an ability to create authenticity for period films.

Thanks to contributions of land and buildings from local citizens including an actual mortuary, our film will have incredible production values.  Though these relationships exist, we still need your help in funding to give us the ability to make Shiny Things the best short film it can possibly be.

The Director and producer are pulling from their pockets to make this happen, however their combined $2,000 isn't enough to make the film and our budget could use your help.  Thank you for donating whatever you can.

Our goal of $1,550 will go toward an overall budget of $7,322.84

($1,764.00) - $12.00 per person per day meal expense - I know - that's a large number when talking about so many people.... breakfast, lunch, dinner, snacks, beverages...(so the cast and crew stay alive)

($1,976.84) - Camera Support Equipment Rentals

($1,070.00)  - Fees / Salaries - SAG Minimums, Journeymen, Craftsmen

($500.00) - $50.00 per room per night hotel expenses for talent

($550.00) - False torso build for special effect necessary for climax of film

($350.00) - Set Dressing / Props

($260.00) - $130.00 Port-a-John rental rate per location

($250.00) Special effects / corpsing makeup for Amos

($250.00) - Expendables - Surface Protection, Caution Tape, Toilet Paper, Hand Towels, Cleaning Supplies, Drop Cloths, Paint Brushes, Cardboard, Batteries, Hand Sanitizer, Storage Unit, Costume Cleaning Fees, etc.

($150.00) - Wardrobe Rentals

($200.00) - Film Processing

Shiny Things is a labor of love for everyone involved.  The Colorado Film School provides the equipment package, which allows us the ability to professionally film, without which we could not afford to make this picture come to life.

Unfortunately, the school does not provide the other budgetary items necessary to make and promote the film.  Funds are needed for items such as character wardrobe, authentic period props and vehicles, film stock and processing for super 16MM film, camera support, hair and makeup, special effects, sound equipment, and support for feeding a cast of 11 + 16 extras and crew of 22 persons breakfast, lunch, dinner, snacks and beverages plus housing for 4 nights.

Our cast and crew are motivated, talented, hard working individuals.  The entire crew is made up of students and alumni from the Colorado Film School.  It feels good to give :-)
