OUR WORK:
Its
time for our MFA thesis at Brooklyn College and we need your support! We (Lisa
Reynolds & McKenna Kerrigan) will present She Fell of the Face of the Earth (and then came back), an
interactive visual and audio installation that traces four generations of a
family plagued with momentary paralysis. A science-mystery containing a sudden frost, cataleptic fits,
a kidney punch and a perfect vacation, She
Fell Off the Face of The Earth (and then came back) looks more closely at
the small pauses we take, whether we choose them or are forced to take them.
OUR STORY:
While
we began PIMA (Performance and Interactive Media Arts) as theater practitioners,
we decided to spend our graduate school years expanding our artistic practice to
include other mediums such as printmaking, visual art and audio design. Our last collaborative project was a
visual art installation based on surveys of the patrons of Freddy's Bar before
it was closed by the Atlantic Yards development. Exhibited at Southpaw in
Brooklyn, it reflected patrons' memories of Freddy's, their ideas for fair
compensation for the destruction of the bar, and their revenge fantasies on the
developers. The success of this project encouraged us to continue this type of
work for our thesis.
We
want to produce She Fell Off the Face of
The Earth (and then came back) with the highest quality possible because
our work will reflect on our new collaboration, our young MFA program, and the
partnerships we are making with other artists and organizations. Because PIMA is a fairly new program,
it does not have established support systems for its artists such as a thesis
budget. However, one of the
requirements of our MFA thesis is that the project must be produced
professionally an exciting challenge in New York!
OUR PLAN:
We
are asking you all to give what you can; $10 or $20 will help us produce this
work! Already, we are very fortunate that design services, audio editing and sculpting are being
donated by artists supporting our work.
The research, concepts and designs are in place, we now just need to
execute the construction of it!
We
have eight exhibits in our installation and need a minimum of $100 per exhibit
for design and art supplies. We want to add to the culture of enthusiasts
everywhere, so we are not charging for our installation. Our goal is to raise $850 by April 29th. We would also be thrilled to receive in
kind donations such as art supplies or a donation of your time (help us install
the exhibit) or service (a photographer to shoot our opening). Your support of any kind will be deeply
appreciated and we will gladly return the favor.
Also, even if we meet our goal of $850, you can still give so that we can pay the artists for the work they are doing. That is our next step!
