By Adopting a performer you will be rewarding 35 of our dedicated, brilliant and hard-working performers for their many hours of time, at Brighton's only all night arts festival, White Night, in the prestigious Brighton Dome.
Read on to see exactly how and why your kind contributions will be valued especially in these times of financial hardship for the arts...
Shambush! Our Story
We are a Theatre company based in Brighton England. For the past three years we have created intimate, fun and shambolic experiences that grab audiences by the proverbials and drag them into the manic and colourful world of Shambush! We are four artists all trained in different areas who have combined our efforts to take the stuffiness out of live art and give our audiences joyous experiences they'll never forget.
We are lucky enough to be surrounded by lots and lots of talented friends who are more than willing to pitch in and help us make every audience member feel like they are the center of the Shambush world.
With arts funding cuts all over the world, more and more talented performers are being asked to give their time, often for years, without getting the financial credit they deserve for the hard work they're putting in.
The Impact
This unbalanced system always frustrated us and we would declare "When we make it big... we'll pay our performers, no more of this working for free malarkey, that's a mug's game, people deserve to be paid what their worth. Otherwise acting, performing and art becomes an expensive hobby that only the rich can partake in. No fair! " we said "Viva la revolution! Interns need to put bread on the table too!"
At the moment we don't see a way out of this cycle of unpaid internships and yearn for a not long forgotten world of paid apprenticeships, where people could work their way up the ladder but never be expected to live without a basic wage. The arts world is full of good will and there are so many talented young, and not so young, performers out there who will give up their time and share their creativity... surely they should be rewarded?
What We Need & What You Get
We have recently been given our biggest commission yet! Every year Brighton holds a festival called White Nights and Brighton's biggest venue, The Dome, have asked us to make a piece that spans the length and breadth of their building. The theme 'Utopia Game show' has inspired us to create a glitzy game show whirlwind of glitter and prizes. In order for us to achieve this we need at least 30 performers. They are on board and have kindly offered to give us their time. The budget that the venue can afford will cover the building of sets and buying of costumes and props, but we have only been able to budget expenses of 10 (around $7US) for each performer, ourselves included. We would love to be able to stick to our mantra and pay people what they are worth and help stop this cycle of unpaid labour in the entertainment industry. The arts are important and at a time of crisis like this, when do people need entertaining more?
So we would like to offer you the chance to adopt a performer!
Your donation will put food on your performer's table and a smile on their (very expressive) face!
In return you will receive a personal letter of thanks from us with a picture of your performer and a unique "I helped Shambush feed a performer and all I got was this lousy badge" badge! (for donations under $25 we'll email you the cut out and keep badge to print and wear with pride!)
Your name will be in the credits for the show and you will have free lifetime membership and entry to the Shambush! world events. You will also receive our eternal gratitude and that of struggling performers everywhere, who know they can make a difference and brighten up our lives if someone would only give them the chance.
Other Ways You Can Help
If you like our adopt a performer campaign please encourage your friends to join in, give as little or as much as you can spare and enjoy the warm fuzzy feeling! You never know you may see your performer on the silver screen one day and you can guarantee they'll be adopting a new generation of performers themselves. I know we will be!
