The Story

Ricky is a small but gutsy teenager who is obsessed with inventing the ultimate karate combination move. Only problem is his moves don't work, so everyone makes fun of him.

But when Ricky finds himself in the afterlife he discovers that his made-up moves kill seemingly unslayable demons instantly.

And they don't think its funny...

About us

We are a collective of South African film and TV professionals (who also happen to be friends and family) and we are truly excited to be making Shady Valley a reality.  I've been working on the script for two and a half years and the team has been developing the look and feel and the SFX for the last few months. 

Everyone on the team makes a living creating commercials, corporate videos and documentaries - but we all dream of having the opportunity to make a feature film - especially a kick-ass horror comedy! We're super-excited to be getting the process underway - and step one is to shoot a insanely cool pilot video to give potential investors a feel for the style, action, humour and scariness of the feature. This is where we can really use your help!

What We Need & What You Get

We're raising $10 000 to shoot a 3-minute pilot video, and to build a promotional website.

All members of the collective are working for free, and we have negotiated all equipment down to the lowest possible price, but a Hollywood-level production still has a few unavoidable hard costs:

1. The Camera - We are shooting on the RED Mysterium X (the same camera they used on Social Network). The RED captures incredible pictures and records at a 4K resolution, which is key for our post-production special effects.

2. The Monster - A scary, convincing monster is critical to the success of a horror film.  We have been experimenting with different designs and techniques to bring our demon to life, and we have decided to shoot it as a live action effect and augment it digitally in post-production. A lot of the money we raise will be used to make the live action demon - a combination of prosthetic suit and Weta legs (which make the actor playing the demon taller and more menacing).

3. Crew - Although the collective is working for free (Writer/Director, Producer, Director of Photography, Art Director, Animator, Costume Designer, Editor, Actors), we still need the best camera, lighting, grips and art crew to maintain a high production standard. These crew members are all top professionals in their fields and need to be paid and fed!

Any additional funds that we raise will go towards building the Shady Valley website, and other promotional costs of the next phase of fund-raising for the full length feature film.
