When I first came back home to New Orleans post-Katrina, something was missing. I just couldnt put my finger on it. And then it hit me. It was the music. The music had died. SBG

A NEW DAWN

Five years has passed since Katrina crash-landed upon my city. Some of the music has come back. Some has not.

This is a story, a journey, through my hometown of New Orleans, in a quest to find those musicians who made it back back to the Big Easy. And those, who did not.

New Orleans has a special soul. A soul of music which captivates you. Entrances you. SBG

These musicians voices have not been heard. Their stories have not been told.

Their only voice? Their music.

Approximately half of all music studios in New Orleans did not make it back after the storm. Some re-opened. Others shut down washed away by the flood waters of time.

Rebuilding has been slow, but steady. Some musicians who lost their instruments to the waters have gotten new ones. Some borrow when they can.

A NEW DISASTER

Now, as the flood waters of despair have receded and hope flourishes, a new disaster awaits on the horizon. And it comes from an almost improbable front city government.

Politicians are now attempting to kill the music by enforcing curfews on musicians who play in the streets of New Orleans, robbing them of their craft and trade. Can they survive as victims once again? Will the music survive?

HOPE IS NOT LOST A NEW BATTLE HAS BEGUN

A battle has begun between the faceless evils of politics and the ones who have no more fight left in them the musicians.

ShadowLines is a love letter to my hometown of New Orleans.

If someone could say theyve been to Hell and back outside of military combat I certainly could, going through recovery from Katrina, my own personal tragedy and when the levees burst open on my city.

Much has been said and seen in the media about the disasters Katrina, Rita, the levee breaks, governmental failures and even the recent Gulf/BP oil spill. However, nothing has been said about the soul of New Orleans which courses through the veins of musicians, tourists and even locals.

The music of New Orleans.

This documentary will be mainly funded by myself but, I cannot do it alone. Having worked in the film and television industry for over 27 years, as much as I have tried to, I have come to the realization I will only be able to fund and produce so much of ShadowLines.

Therefore, my plea to you is look to the right of your screen and find a donation youd like to make to see this documentary come to fruition.

Im certain youd at least want to see the DVD, all its behind-the-scenes, interviews which didnt make it in the documentary and as many extras as I can put into it.

Donations will provide funding whereby I can hire local New Orleans film crews, pay for insurance for production, pay for some costs of production & post-production and pay for the costs of DVD production.

While I have enough finances to produce most of ShadowLines I wont be able to do it alone without your help.

You could buy the DVD at least and even send this out to your friends. Maybe they can help, too.
