Screen Stockport Independent Short Film & Television Festival

Screen Stockport is an independent film and television festival created by 18 year old filmmaker Joe Barratt to give other aspiring, young filmmakers an opportunity to share and screen their work with experienced industry professionals and a chance to network with creatives, including directors, producers, writers, editors and actors.

Running for the first time this year, the festival is open to anyone with an interest in filmmaking and is dedicated to supporting independent filmmakers by sharing their films with the local community at the event on the 17th September 2011 and with the wider community online on our website: www.screenstockport.co.uk

Screen Stockport's website has it's own web series which has interviews with creatives linked to Stockport and independent filmmakers worldwide to inspire and educate students about the film, television and media industry.

Screen Stockport has started to create links with local schools and colleges, with our web series described by teachers as an "invaluable learning resource" for their media, film, drama and careers lessons. On the back of this initial success we have decided to run an event as part of the festival specifically for local schools and colleges.

The event will be a screening of Stockport based director Phil Hawkin's (@philmblog) latest feature film 'Being Sold', which was shot in Stockport in just two days and won 'Best Film' at the London Independent Film Festival. We hope the students will be inspired from listening to Phil talk about the role of a director and about how 'Being Sold' was launched online through the innovative distribution platform Distrify

The festival will bring the local town community together in celebration of independent film, creating a creative hub for the town, supporting the next generation of filmmakers both locally, nationally and internationally.

But...we need your support!

Help us make Screen Stockport a success!

Unlike many other film festivals Screen Stockport does not charge filmmakers a fee to enter their films into the festival, as we want to encourage all independent filmmakers to enter their work without cost restrictions

To run the event we need to cover the following basic costs:

1200 - Hire of the venue for two days for the film festival and schools event.
600 - Marketing and Promotion incl. Printing of Flyers, Tickets, Vinyl Banners, Posters,

Total: 1800/$3000

All the money you contribute will go towards putting on the festival and assuring the continuation of the web series which is fast becoming an essential resource for young, aspiring filmmakers.

More about Screen Stockport...

Currently we've interviewed independent filmmakers Chris Jones, Keith Wright, MJ Slide, Chris Nash, Vicky Jewson and filmmaking duo Soren Johnstone and Michael Babiarz who have all talked about their personal route into film and their latest projects.

Screen Stockport is also all about promoting the heritage of the town, putting Stockport on the map through film. That is why we have three categories that are all Stockport based, "Stockport People", "Stockport Stories" and "I Love Stockport" to encourage local filmmakers to try and capture their own personal perspective towards Stockport.

Screen Stockport is also about showcasing the success of the people who were born, live or work here.

We've interviewed Stockport based actor Daniel Rigby, who won the BAFTA for 'Best Actor' recently, Col Needham, the founder & CEO of IMDb, actress Jennifer Hennessy, who has appeared in Doctor Who and The Office, director Daikin Marsh, director of Channel 4's Hollyoaks and BBC's Holby City as well as producer/director Robert Murray, who made an hour long documentary for BBC3, to name but a few.

In our Screen Stockport TV section we also do videos to promote local initiatives and events, bringing local creative communities of people togethersharing their work with the wider world.

We also have a blog which regularly updates with news from the filmmaking world, promoting independent film projects on IndieGoGo and Kickstarter.

We realise that at this moment in time filmmakers are becoming more and more disillusioned with the nature of film festivals however we promise that Screen Stockport is truly dedicated to the work of the independent filmmaker.

In fact after talking to American stage, film and television actor Reg E. Cathey recently about Screen Stockport he said that it "sounds fabulous, like what Sundance in America used to be".
