Our Story
My name is Samantha Hatch and I just graduated from Calarts with a Masters degree in Film Directing. Sands of Mexico was first a short 20 minute movie. Then the idea grew into a full web series. We shot the movie in Manzanillo, Mexico, May 2009. The movie is finished. We shot the web series in May 2010. Im currently in post production on the project. The series will be 4 episodes long and premiere around April/May of 2011.
The story begins with Daniel (23) who comes to a Mexican villa with his girlfriend and another couple. They are celebrating just graduating from college. Daniels family owns the villa, which he has not been back to since his mother died. Three months later. His cousin Sebastian comes to visit him. Sebastian is a soldier who is on leave from Afghanistan. Also a special visitor appears surprising Daniel.
The Impact
Currently this media is in its infancy. Most of what is available is in a single genre based context. Also, much of what is out there is poorly written and has low production value. What I am trying to do, is take the media to the next level With interesting setting, richer characters, more engaging stories. I believe this will set a new standard for web content. The movie was shot on HDV and the web series was shot on the Canon 7D full HD camera.
