This is your opportunity to support the Sylvia Rivera Law Project's important work of increasing the political voice and visibility of low-income people and people of color who are transgender, intersex, or gender non-conforming!

The Sylvia Rivera Law Project is excited to present our 1st Annual Gala where we'll be honoring Jay Toole, John Boston, Kit Yan, and Rickke Mananzala! SRLP's GALA-SPECTACULAR will be held on the anniversary of the Stonewall Uprising, Wednesday, June 29th, 2011 at The Knitting Factory 8-11PM!
Featuring performances by: I.G. Rivera; Tactical Spectacle; Geo Wyeth, and Lana Carroll of the Low and the Lonesome! Our fabulous MC, Lucia Leandro Gimeno aka LLG, will keep you entertained and titillated, while DJs Benjamin Haber (JUDY) and Brian Belukha (JUDY), will keep you moving all night.
Meet Our Honorees
- Kit Yan, As seen on HBO Documentary Asians Aloud, Kit Yan tell stories through slam poetry from the lens of a transgender Asian American from Hawaii now in New York. Kits work has been taught coast to coast, from San Francisco State to Harvard and is a Campus Pride top 25 LGBT speakers hot list artist. He has been seen speaking at the National Equality March, performing on the San Francisco Pride main stage, Creating Change, and is a nationally ranking slam poet. Kit is also the first ever and reigning Mr. Transman 2010.
- Rickke Mananzala, former Executive Director of FIERCE!Rickke served as Campaign Coordinator and then Co-Director of FIERCE for almost four years until he became Executive Director in January 2008. He is a former New Voices Fellow at SRLP, a founding National Steering Committee member of the Right to the City Alliance, and also served on the board of Third Wave Foundation for five years.
- Jay Toole, Director of the Shelter Organizing Project, Queers for Economic Justice. Jay is a founding member of QEJ, as well as a tireless organizer and advocate around homelessness and poverty-related issues for over ten years. In 2006 Jay received the Richard L. Schiegel National Legion of Honor Award for Emerging Activist.
- John Boston, Director of Prisoners' Rights Project, The Legal Aid Society. John is a nationally recognized legal advocate on prisoner rights issues, a veteran prisoners' rights litigator, and co-author of the Prisoners' Self-Help Litigation Manual. John is widely published, with numerous articles on prisoners, their rights and living conditions nationwide, and has litigated several cases pertaining to prisoner's rights.

SRLP's Gala-Spectacular and GOGO-SPECTACULAR will celebrate the beauty and power in our communities, and
raise valuable funds to support SRLP's work to increase the
political voice and visibility of low-income people and people
of color who are transgender, intersex, or gender
non-conforming. SRLP works to guarantee that all people are free to
self-determine gender identity and expression, regardless of income
or race, and without facing harassment, discrimination or
violence.
