SCARLET: Our Positive Youth

SCARLE+ is a 1 hour television documentary which follows 4 HIV affected or infected youth in 4 different North American cities filmed Cinéma vérité style.

UPDATE We made our goal for the first campaign!!  THANK YOU SO MUCH!

Wow!  Thanks, everyone!  We must have set an IndieGoGo record with your fantastic assistance in achieving our goal.  We are so thrilled.  We now know that we can deliver the best version of the TV length Positive Youth documentary.  BUT, as we said below, all funds raised from now on will go towards our feature length version of the film so we can release an Educational DVD in libraries, schools and universities as well as play film festivals around the world.  Every dollar raised now goes toward greater education, visibility and awareness of the feature length film!!  We even set up a new campaign.

Every dollar is most graciously appreciated in helping us reach our goal!!

Look out, Film Fests!  Positive Youth is on its way!

Thank you. Thank you. Thank you.

Our Documentary

Positive Youth is a 1 hour television documentary which follows 4 HIV + youth in 4 different North American cities.

Growing up in the 1980s and 90s we were hammered with terrifying statistics of HIV/AIDS.  Thirty years in, we are still learning.  What education do youth receive now and why is the youth infection rate still the highest?

We have seen retrospective documentaries about the AIDS crisis and interviews with survivors but what about the positive youth of today?  We aim to feature accessible and inspirational individuals and the often rocky road that they have travelled to get here.

Each of the 4 doc subjects will be selected to create a dynamic perspective on the reality of living positive. Medical, psychological and educational experts will also weigh in to provide up-to-date facts and a historical context to the reality of living positively.

The Impact

Our documentary has been licensed by Logo TV in the USA and Out TV in Canada.  We know that this show will get eyeballs.  How many?  We'll be reaching over 45 million homes!!

So what do we need you for, you ask?  Our license fees and the first 12k which we've raised in this campaign - for which we are immensely grateful - will cover the costs of a 1 hour TV documentary.  As we've been shooting we've realized how POWERFUL these young people's stories are - and how fitting them into 40 minutes of television is going to be a heartbreaking process.

Our GOAL is to now raise additional funds for the feature length film with an aim to release at film festivals around the world and make available to educational institutions and HIV/AIDS organizations.  This means much needed funds for editing, color correction, sound mix, masters, etc.

What We Need & What You Get

The Post-Production costs for the 1 hour documentary are budgeted at $12,000.  This includes editing, titling, music, color correct, mastering and, of course, closed captioning.  (YAY!  Goal reached!)

If we should be lucky enough to surpass our goal, every dollar raised beyond the $12, 000 will go towards re-cutting a festival version of the documentary.  Part of our ultimate goal is to release a feature length version to screen in film festivals around the world.  But that means we have to keep our editor chained to his desk for several more weeks and the prison guards who keep him locked up need to be paid more money.

HELP US MAKE THE FEATURE FILM!!

We are thrilled to be working with several cool organizations like Out Adventures (out-adventures.com ), Wolfe Video (wolfevideo.com) and Positively Frisky ( positivelyfrisky.com) that have graciously offered us many fun items - they're supporting you for supporting us.   So don't be shy.  Check out the perks section and see what strikes your fancy.  And remember that aside from the cool stuff we'll send you, you'll have that warm feeling that comes from doing something good in the world by raising awareness on HIV/AIDS within the youth community. Or maybe it's the warm feeling that comes from using some of our perks?  Either way: enjoy!
