My name is Amit Ashraf and I finished shooting my first feature film in Bangladesh. I was fascinated and angered by the all too common issue of runaway fathers and husbands in Bangladesh who leave their family in the village and run to the city. So I decided to make a film about a man who does something about it. My film RUNAWAY follows Babu who finds absconding fathers/husbands and brings them back to their families. He is constantly searching for his BIG CATCH...
In the course of one year I have shot this film raising funds from local investors. I was fortunate to receive a grant from Sweden which helped finish the last of the shoot. We are currently trying to raise funds to finish the post-production. This includes editing, scoring, sound design and color correction.
This project is very important not just to me as a first timer hoping to kickstart my career, but also to kickstart the Bangladeshi film industry. This is something very different from anything, and if it can get the proper final coating it can really open up new ways of thinking about film in Bangladesh.
