Redhead on the Road!

Help send Redheaded Stepchild on a cross-Canada Fringe tour!

Our Story

This summer, Nobody's Business Theatre (in association with Buddies in Bad Times Theatre) is taking our show Redheaded Stepchild on a cross-Canada Fringe tour with stops in Winnipeg, Calgary, Edmonton, and Victoria. And you can help us get there!

Redheaded Stepchild is a play that's written and performed by Johnnie Walker and directed by Morgan Norwich.  It's about a 12-year-old with red hair named Nicholas, his chain-smoking, ex-Jehovah's Witness golf pro stepmother Mary-Anne, and his impeccably stylish alter ego Rufus Vermilion. Johnnie plays all 3 characters in a tour-de-force performance and the show has been a big hit with audiences and critics alike.

Johnnie and Morgan are gonna be on the road with this show from the middle of July to the beginning of September. We won a spot in the Canadian Association of Fringe Festivals' Touring Lottery, so we have guaranteed dates in all four cities, but we could use some help buying our plane tickets. Help send our plucky heroes on their way!

The Impact

We're not the only ones who like Redheaded Stepchild! It was first performed at Uno Fest in Victoria, BC, then at SummerWorks in Toronto, then again at Buddies in Bad Times Theatre.  At SummerWorks, Johnnie was awarded the 2010 Steam Whistle Emerging Artist Award for his work on the show.

Here are some things people have had say about Redheaded Stepchild:

"NNNNN + Critic's Pick... Wonderful new play... Honest, heartfelt and funny." NOW Magazine

"A terrific, moving, very, very funny production." CBC Radio

"A must see." Classical 96.3 FM

"★★★★... A personal, funny and moving show... Walker's script is well observed, unflinching, and honest." The Times Colonist.

What We Need & What You Get

We've got a bunch of great fundraising dance-parties planned for this spring, but we still need to get some more funds together if we're going to make this tour a reality. Every dollar you give will go directly into our travel costs. If we are fortunate enough to exceed our funding goal, any further money will go towards production upkeep, marketing, and other aspects of getting our play ready to go on the road.

Besides helping two of your favourite theatre artists bring a great show to new audiences, there are lots of sweet perks to donating with us! Check them out over there on the right!

Tax Receipts?

Like getting a tax receipt for your charitable donations? We hear ya. If you are planning to donate $50 or more, we are able to provide a tax receipt for you, but not if you donate through IndieGoGo. NOTE: THIS IS VERY IMPORTANT. IF YOU DO NOT WRITE IN "BUDDIES RESIDENCY PROGRAM" WE WILL NOT RECEIVE YOUR MONEY!

And that's it! Here's the link. And don't worry, we'll make sure you get your perks, even if you haven't made a donation through IndieGoGo.
