Cult: What the hell is it?
CULT follows a Tommy, a young reporter, as he
ventures up to the woods of Northern Maine to spend 30 days with "The Hand of God Ministry." Nestor, the cult's charismatic leader and self proclaimed demigod, is planning his ascension to full god hood. He has asked Tommy to document the month leading up, as he prepares for the ceremony with rituals and deeds.
It becomes increasingly apparent that there are those in the cult who hold dissenting opinions, and Tommy gets quickly caught up in the politics of two warring schools of belief. As Tommy is caught up in this brutal standoff, he is forced to also cope with his own growing interest in the cult's beliefs.
The film is shot in 100% documentary format. It is intercut with explanation and narrative by Professor Reginald King, Tommy's department chair in grad school, who received the footage after the conclusion of the events.
CULT isn't a remake. It isn't a sequel. It isn't adapted from
a book or story. It isn't adapted from a foreign film. It's a 100%
original horror film in the truest sense of the term.
This movie is for people that love movies like Last House on the Left (no...not the remake), House on the Edge of the Park, Cannibal Holocaust, Texas Chainsaw Massacre (again...not the remake) and I Spit on Your Grave (You get the point...not the remake).
Kevin and Pat are Red Market Films. Kevin and Pat have film degrees. Kevin and Pat don't make films for a living. Kevin and Pat would like to change that.
In all seriousness I (Kevin) have wanted to make horror movies since I was in 2nd grade. I've been shooting short horror films since I was 12, and went to Emerson College to study Media Production from 04-08. Since then, I've gotten side tracked into working in Sales/Marketing and not film. I'm looking to change that. I care a lot about independent horror, and I want to be a part of the wave of talented film makers throwing aside studio funding and doing it themselves. If that inspires you, or if you care at all about a couple guys doing what they love and making something great, then donate or share. We'd love that.
What happens next is
up to you guys. Will we return to our mundane lives at desks in office
buildings? Or will we finally realize their potential as premier genre
film makers? (Ending up dead in a ditch sounds like a likely third
option but you might not be able to affect that)
We're
looking for $2,000. In comparison to bigger budget, Hollywood films,
it's hardly a lot. But we need and value every penny.
$2,000
is all we need. That will get us going, allow us to shoot the film how
we want to shoot it, and assure that we're able to print some DVDs when
we're done to pass along to you folks.
In truth, the film will most likely cost in the realm of $7,500 to make. But we're taking it piece by piece. What is this $2,000 going to get us?
That is to say: Equipment (extra batteries, cameras, small fill lights, DAT recorders)
Actors: Primarily volunteer, but we need to reimburse gas and make sure they get fed.
A cost breakdown for the entire film.
Food: $200 (Most will be donated, but we need a slush fund to make sure people are fed)
Gore/Makeup: $2000 (We're not going to try to do this ourselves, we want it to be high quality)
