Cult: What the hell is it?

CULT follows a Tommy, a young reporter, as he ventures up to the woods of Northern Maine to spend 30 days with "The Hand of God Ministry." Nestor, the cult's charismatic leader and self proclaimed demigod, is planning his ascension to full god hood. He has asked Tommy to document the month leading up, as he prepares for the ceremony with rituals and deeds.

It becomes increasingly apparent that there are those in the cult who hold dissenting opinions, and Tommy gets quickly caught up in the politics of two warring schools of belief. As Tommy is caught up in this brutal standoff, he is forced to also cope with his own growing interest in the cult's beliefs.

The film is shot in 100% documentary format. It is intercut with explanation and narrative by Professor Reginald King, Tommy's department chair in grad school, who received the footage after the conclusion of the events.

CULT isn't a remake. It isn't a sequel. It isn't adapted from a book or story. It isn't adapted from a foreign film. It's a 100% original horror film in the truest sense of the term.

This movie is for people that love movies like Last House on the Left (no...not the remake), House on the Edge of the Park, Cannibal Holocaust, Texas Chainsaw Massacre (again...not the remake) and I Spit on Your Grave (You get the point...not the remake).

Our Story (it's Rad)

Kevin and Pat are Red Market Films. Kevin and Pat have film degrees. Kevin and Pat don't make films for a living. Kevin and Pat would like to change that.

In all seriousness I (Kevin) have wanted to make horror movies since I was in 2nd grade. I've been shooting short horror films since I was 12, and went to Emerson College to study Media Production from 04-08. Since then, I've gotten side tracked into working in Sales/Marketing and not film. I'm looking to change that. I care a lot about independent horror, and I want to be a part of the wave of talented film makers throwing aside studio funding and doing it themselves. If that inspires you, or if you care at all about a couple guys doing what they love and making something great, then donate or share. We'd love that.

What happens next is up to you guys. Will we return to our mundane lives at desks in office buildings? Or will we finally realize their potential as premier genre film makers? (Ending up dead in a ditch sounds like a likely third option but you might not be able to affect that)

What We Need & What You Get (A very lot...and very little!)

We're looking for $2,000. In comparison to bigger budget, Hollywood films, it's hardly a lot. But we need and value every penny.

$2,000 is all we need. That will get us going, allow us to shoot the film how we want to shoot it, and assure that we're able to print some DVDs when we're done to pass along to you folks.

In truth, the film will most likely cost in the realm of $7,500 to make. But we're taking it piece by piece. What is this $2,000 going to get us?

With this campaign we're focused on WHAT GETS US SHOOTING

That is to say: Equipment (extra batteries, cameras, small fill lights, DAT recorders)

Actors: Primarily volunteer, but we need to reimburse gas and make sure they get fed.

A cost breakdown for the entire film.

Equipment: $1,300
Software: $300
Food: $200 (Most will be donated, but we need a slush fund to make sure people are fed)
Gore/Makeup: $2000 (We're not going to try to do this ourselves, we want it to be high quality)
Transportation/Lodging: $500
Printing/Duplication costs for 5,000+ DVDs: $2,000+

The Impact (Why should you give a crap?)

This film represents our passion. We feel that through independent, crowd funded films, the horror community is drawn much closer and strengthened greatly. With each success, dozens of other people who never thought they could do something like this step up and prove themselves wrong.

What happens if we don't hit our goal?

We'll give up, take your money, buy beer and cry.

Just kidding.

We keep fighting. Making a movie is a long process, and so is funding it. If we don't meet our goal this go around, we'll think of new ways to press on and make it happen. We're shooting intro sequences over the winter, and we can get those done and out of the way with a lot less than $2,000. That gives us until the spring to raise necessary funds. Everything you donate will be used on screen, and we're not giving up until we're done or dead.

Other Ways You Can Help (Send beer)

Of course, money ain't the only thing we need! There are many ways you can be a total savior of the horror genre and help us out.

1. BLAST THIS PAGE OUT TO EVERYONE WITH THE INCLUDED SHARE TOOLS! This is huge because without exposure we're just a couple of good looking dudes with a good looking idea.

2. Web design! Our website is awful! Can you help us?

3. Graphic design/artwork! We're also not accomplished artists. I can draw stickmen a little bit, that's all.

4. E-mails of encouragement! Send a letter to us at redmarketfilms@gmail.com. It would make us very stoked.
