The campaign time is expired but you can still contribute directly
Hi! Our indiegogo campaign has expired and we just wanted to say a quick thanks to those who contributed so far - we didn't reach our goal, but we're gonna continue regardless.
Our Story
At the end of October 2011, the Rusty Nuts Motorcycle Club will be running its 25th annual Grand Challenge. Over 100 of New Zealand's hardest bikers will be riding 1000 miles in 24 hours.
This campaign is to help us tell the story of this ride, the story of the Rusty Nuts and the stories of the diverse group of bikers as they travel through some of the most stunning landscapes New Zealand has to offer.
The Easiest way to help
Even if this isn't something you can contribute to, although we hope you will, is to use the social tool to let other know about our efforts.

The Impact
This story of this documentary is about far more the ride itself.
It's a story following the journey of all of the people and the incredibly rich and emotional stories of each rider - and that underlying story that we will be seeking to capture and bring out so others can get a glimpse of why this is more than a simple trip on a bike.
To meet these bikers as a bunch you'd probably think they we're all just a touch on the rough side, and then you begin to learn who they are, where they come from and how diverse their backgrounds are.
This is a collection of people who's backgrounds and circumstances would never see them interact in the normal world, and here they all come together for an equally diverse range of reasons and blend. Doctors, truck drivers, police, gang members, big business guys and builders - it all makes no difference to them on the Grand Challenge.
As I said - not something you expect from a hard arse biker rally, and certainly a story worth telling.
The Rusty Nuts 25th Grand Challenge Documentary is going to share with the audience some of what it is the riders experience on the road, how they prepare for it, and their reflections on the ride afterwards, and bring that experience our audience, biker and non-biker alike.
What We Need & What You Get
First and foremost we need funds to meet our base production costs: so please make a contribution.
We're running an intensive short term funding campaign to get this thing shot. The funds we're targeting are covering basic expenses and filmmaking only.
- Petrol, accommodation and food for the crew - we'll be traveling over 15,000km (9300 miles) to get our cameras to where we need to be. The better funding we achieve, the more places we can send people. This is going to be the biggest cost, and we're talking camp ground cabins, not fancy hotels
- Digital Media - basic tape stock, memory cards, disk to capture to and store.
- Camera gear - GoPro's to strap to riders and their bikes, and rental of some low light gear to get quality footage from the night locations,
- Finishing, Marketing and Promotion. Naturally we want to sell this on and get it seen. This is going to take some money as well.
Unlike fictional film making, there is no retake, no delaying the shoot for weather or global economic downturns. This is a one off event. We only get one go to capture this, and it is vital to us that we do it right and show it honest.
Documentaries that are all "confessional booth" and "after the fact" recollections and re-enactments fail to feel sincere - and without that true and honest reality we can't bring that honest believable and amazing story to the screen.
The people doing this are all volunteers, non of what you contribute is going into our pockets. All of the funds we receive will go directly to improving the production itself.
It is also important to us that you know that we are not just asking for funds without contributing ourselves. Over the last few years the core production crew have spent over NZD$50,000 on pre production, audio and camera gear, and hundreds of hours of time, and we'll continue investing as we go.
We are offering a range of benefits to you as a contributor, which you can see in the "perks" panels.

Please note that the contribution amounts are in US dollars due to how indiegogo works.
