Go Forth and Multiply! A Documentary about the Philippine Reproductive Health Bill.
Our Story
Too many women and babies die in the Philippines during child birth. Our documentary and your contribution aims to make a difference. Arleen Cuevas and Fritz Kohle are both film-makers who are based in Europe and Asia. We are also educators at a Dutch university with close ties to the Philippines.
We already shot on location in Manila interviewing leading senior politicians such as Congressman Edzel Lagman, Senator Tito Sotto, spokesman Msrg. Figura of the Catholic Bishop's Conference in the Philippines, Pro-lifer Eric Manalang, Freethinker Red Tani, political activist Carlos Celdran, the Department of Health and many more who are involved in the policy decision regarding the controversial health reform bill.
But we also visited the famous Dr. Jose Fabela hospital in Manila, Tundo, San Andres and Payatas to get a first hand account of the living conditions many of the women and their families endure.
The RH bill in short is aimed to help reduce infant mortality and provide better health and health education to the poor in the Philippines. The RH bill is widely discussed and a hot topic in the Philippines. Pro Life and the Catholic Bishops Conference in the Philippines fiercely oppose it. Humanists and socialist women groups fiercely defend it.
The Impact
With your help we hope to reach a
wider audience with our documentary so that low income Filipinos get to
see a balanced view of both arguments, enabling them to think more for themselves and draw their own conclusion on the RH bill. We also want the world to get to know more about the important issues about family planning, proper healthcare, child mortality and other reproductive health issues that most people take for granted.
What We Need & What You Get
We already financed the pre-production and production of the video. So we are already half-way there!
But we still need funding to complete post-production and get the video onto a number of film festivals and other distribution channels. This will help raise awareness of the RH bill not only in the Philippines but also abroad. More importantly we see to distribute the final video in schools, local and national broadcasters in the Philippines.
