A UNIQUE STORY:

Sean Casey has been rescuing and placing stray and abused animals in Brooklyn and the New York City area  since he was 15 years old. Currently he operates one of the most well-known, busiest, no-kill rescue shelters in the New York City area. The City (Animal Care and Control), and other larger Shelters often contact Sean Casey Animal Rescue (SCAR) to rescue special needs and neglected and abused animals. But there is so much more to what goes on at Sean Casey Animal Rescue. Spending time there you get the feeling of community. Every thing from the exotic animals they rescue to the countless volunteers occupying the small store front in Brooklyn, makes SCAR a very unique place. VOLUNTEERS! They also have numerous volunteers working at the shelter seven days a week three hundred and sixty-five days a year. Anyone can volunteer. You just show up -- and they do show up in numbers. Young, old, rich, poor, you name it, they are volunteering at SCAR.

They will not turn away any animals if they can help it. Sean also works with a number of At Risk student programs and number of their volunteers come from these At Risk programs.

THE END RESULT:

My hope is that once this documentary film is done, we will not  only bring it to film festivals, but we will also approach PBS, Animal Planet, Nat Geo and the Discovery Channel with the film. I will finish this project regardless of how much money is raised on indieGOGO, I am that committed to this project and this cause.

Sean's "community first" approach toward how he runs his shelter and how he interacts within the neighborhoods of Brooklyn and the New York City area, are what make SCAR not only unique, but also the success that it is. Success is measured by impact and not dollars, and SCAR is very successful. While Sean is well known in the New York area, what he is doing should be the model for No Kill shelters all over the country. I hope this documentary will inspire others to take up the fight and do what Sean is doing in their own communities.

WHAT WE NEED:

This  is a low budget project, but more than I can pay out of pocket. Every dollar raised for this project will go to the making of the documentary, I am drawing no salary from this and no one is getting paid. This project is basically me and my camera and a lot of great people down at SCAR.  Donations can be as small as five dollars to as much as you can afford. There are gifts for various levels of donations, starting at five dollars and going up from there.

Other Ways You Can Help

Please, If you are able, give what ever you can to help get this worthwhile project made. Please also give what you can to keep SCAR going. They need every dime they can get to keep doing the great work they are doing. You can contact SCAR directly to donate at http://www.nyanimalrescue.org.
