Our Story

Punks for a Princess is a benefit show started in memory of 7-year old Kaitlyn Ferra, who tragically passed away on August 7, 2008. While vacationing in Ashland, New Hampshire, the family SUV was suddenly swept away in a devastating flash flood. Her mother and brother were also carried downstream, but were eventually rescued.
The following month, Kaitlyn’s uncle, along with some friends, organized the first annual Punks for a Princess charity event. Many New England area punk rock bands donated their time to play a concert and raise money for Kaitlyn’s family in their time of need. The following year, Punks for a Princess became a two-concert weekend and raised nearly $3,400 for the Three Rivers WET team, the heroic men and women who risked their lives to rescue Kaitlyn’s mother and brother.
Kaitlyn is fondly remembered as someone who loved helping other children. Whether it be at home, at school, on the playground, or in scouting, Kaitlyn was always the first to lend a helping hand to any child in need of a friend. That’s why in 2010, in honor of Kaitlyn’s loving nature, Punks for a Princess teamed up with A Wish Come True (www.awish.org), an organization that helps to grant extraordinary wishes to children with life-threatening illnesses. 2010 also saw Punks for a Princess expand into a 3 day event including hitting the Boston area with 2 shows in one day at the Beachcomber in Quincy Ma. which helped us raise our highest total to date at $4187.66 giving us a 3 year total of $10,800. The Impact

To date we have been able to help contribute the Kaitlyn Ferra Memorial fund, the 3 Rivers WET team from the lakes region of New Hampshire to help them purchase water rescue gear, and in 2010 we switched gears, realizing Kaitlyn was always helping children we decided it was time to strictly help children in need that's when we were able to bring a smile to a wish childs face when the check we presented to A Wish Come True was enough to completely cover one wish. We currently are working throughout RI and the Boston Ma area with hopes to expand throughout New England within 5 years, all money raised will be a buffer to payout expenses, 2011 saw a soft economy and we were not able to make an impact as we did not have the up front money needed to sustain.

What We Need & What You Get

We are looking to raise $5,000 over the next 60 days, our average yearly expenses which go to pay for merchandise, advertising, raffle tickets, transportation and travel expenses for bands is usually paid upfront out of pocket and is averaging about 4k per year, the economy takes a toll on everyone us included, without these funds upfront donation totals will be down as a more significant amount of proceeds will be needed as reimbursement or as last year we may not be able to do a fundraiser at all, this $5,000 will also be back filled year over year as to not need to do another campaign and ensure we can keep going for as long as there are sick kids. Please rest assured every penny of our profits beyond our goal as well as every penny of our profits from our show go directly to charity

Other Ways You Can Help

Please remember every penny helps and will not be turned away, we humbly ask that you donate what you can and please share with your friends and family what we are doing to make a difference in the lives of local children
