___ history of me + harp

I started playing the harp in 2002 as a freshman at Indiana University. I missed being around my piano, which I started playing when I was five, and figured it was the perfect time to learn a new instrument. After four years of lessons (as well as employment at a harp specialty music store in Bloomington), I became the owner of a harp in the summer of 2006. A bit of trivia: IU has the largest harp department in the world and is home to the International Harp Competition.

When I moved to Seattle two and a half years ago from Bloomington, I traveled only with whatever could fit in my car, which unfortunately did not include my concert grand harp.

___ how i will rescue it

Cost has always been a hindrance to my moving it out to Seattle (still waiting for that nonprofit arts management degree to bring in the big money). But being without my instrument (artistic outlet + helper of sanity) for over two years is too long.

I've been renting it to a student of my former harp teacher's and my plan is to pick it up in mid-October, as I will be flying to Bloomington then for a wedding. I will rent a car, very gently throw the harp in the back, pick up my best friend in Chicago, and drive back to Seattle.

I plan to give my classical music upbringing a refresh as well as be open to new projects with the abundance of musical friends I have here.

___ how you can help

Donations will go to help fund the cost of the rental car, gas for the 2,300-mile trip, and the chunk of paycheck I will miss from time away from work. Any amount you can give will be greatly, intensely, seriously appreciated.

I am thankful for all my friends and family who have listened to my harp-missing talk for the past couple of years and to those who are reading this now. It feels weird to ask for donations, but a couple of friends suggested I create this page. I promise to thank you profusely with music, friendship forever, and probably anything else you suggest. Each donor will also be paired with one of the 47 strings and have the opportunity to rename it (from "7th octave C," for example, to something much more awesome).

Feel free to share this on facebook or via other methods with any other grand Patrons of Harp.

THANK YOU.
