Hi, my name is Shane Ward and I'm a London-based film Director / Producer intensely passionate about making this cinematic feature documentary film - "Prohibition :  A Modern Addiction" - about the global war on drugs.

I have started this crowdfunding appeal because me and my (so far very small) team of volunteers need your help to make this ambitious film project become a reality.

Why make this film? Because nothing like it exists, and it is sorely needed.

You see the more I researched it, the more I realised how little I (and the ordinary people I spoke to) actually knew about what was really going on - and most importantly how it all interconnects.

Making a powerful entertaining film with a global view of drug prohibition like this can make a real difference. By showing people the true cost of the drug war and bringing the debate out into the open we can show our politicians that there are votes to be had in talking sensibly about this. That's not happening now. They take drugs themselves, get elected and conveniently shut up about it all - meanwhile people are killed, have their lives ruined, are imprisoned etc and noting changes. Time to do something about it.

Remember - this is your drug war, and mine. Not someone else's. It is being fought in your name and with your tax dollars. So to even the odds a little, donate to this film - the side that's fighting for a sensible, mature, compassionate, evidence based public debate about drugs.

This is a unique film that will really be something significant. 

To get the film on to the launching pad however, I need to put together a sample or 'trailer' of the film - to show potential investors etc what it will be like to watch. That requires money, and that's where you can really help.

Without something to show, investors, funders, distributors, broadcasters etc are reluctant to get involved. Without funding, the film cant get footage. Without footage, the film's virtually impossible to fund. Its a tough catch-22, but this is how we can break it - a crowdfunding appeal. So please donate now!

With your help we are hoping to raise at least $10,000. I think this is just enough to allow for a small cheap filming trip, and sufficient to get enough good material to give at least a glimpse of what this film will be like - and thus pave the way for further funding and also really get things moving as this issue is happening right now, as you read this and we want to get out there and start making this film. 40 odd years of drug war is enough!

The current thinking is to head to Colombia, Bolivia & Peru as these countries are close and together allow for opportunities to film many different aspects of the drug war.. But plans change and we may choose to go somewhere else if something particularly exciting crops up between now and then (Middle of 2011).

IMPORTANT NOTE: If we are lucky enough to exceed our stated target, we will expand our filming plans to cover other countries, so please donate as much as you can!!

Donating is essential to our success, but so too is spreading the word and this is where you can really do us a huge favour. Please send it onwards.
