PRODIGAL DAUGHTER is a one-hour personal documentary that chronicles my return to Peru and quest to reunite with my family and heal the emotional wounds and cultural rift caused by 16 years of separation. Economic desperation drove each of us to go our separate ways, a family diaspora that reached from Peru to the United States, Japan and beyond. Ironically, our tenacious pursuit of a better life has ravaged my family’s assets, causing further poverty while destroying the tight bond we once shared. Will my return to Peru be a catalyst for reconciliation, or will our determination to immigrate keep us apart? Will we be able to overcome the barriers that now separate us?

With your invaluable support, we will be able to raise $6,000 and fund 1 week of shooting in Japan at the heart of the Peruvian Japanese community in Nagoya.
The raised funds will cover DP and sound person fees as well as pay for airfare, lodging and meals. We have recently shot in Peru and are eager to edit this footage with the Japan scenes we are planning to shoot in July.

PRODIGAL DAUGHTER reveals the hidden injuries of the globalized undocumented immigrant experience, the high cost for families forcibly separated, emotionally split and financially destroyed because of their determination to immigrate to pursue their dreams of a better life.
