Our Story

Hey there! Joe Kolbow and Johnnie Niel of the Donovan Ensemble here. Our theater company has been based in St. John's Episcopal Church in Union City New Jersey since 2007 which is also home to Puerta Abierta -- a free after school program for kids from low income families, many of whom are first generation English speakers. We need your help to put on our second annual circus fundraiser for these great kids

The Impact

Puerta Abierta's state and local grant funding is constantly in jeopardy due to budget cuts. Plus, St. John's own financial situation is precarious due to shrinking church membership. Without additional support this invaluable community program may not be able to continue. Last year's circus, Under the Big Top, was an unforgettable night and raised over $2000 for the program. This year we hope to double the funds raised to $4000.

What We Need & What You Get

Help us reach our goal! This year's circus, Preposterosity: Tall Tales from the Enchanted Forest will be a romp through fractured fairyland presented in Union City on June 9th, 2011. All time and talent for the production are being donated -- your dollars will help us construct an amazing set, rent lighting equipment and buy concessions to sell at the event. All remaining funds will be given directly to the program. In return we'll thank you at a range of levels: from free popcorn to free tickets and a poster signed by the cast.
