More about the PONY 2012 Spring Season
APOLLO E DAFNE + MONTEVERDI MADRIGALS
An amuse bouche of Monteverdi Madrigals will
open this presentation. From visions of mortal combat to the struggle of
war and love in men and women’s hearts, six singers will take you on a
passionate journey of intensely human and strikingly mythical
proportions. We then move onto our main course, Apollo e Dafne.
So hold onto your chastity belts because we’re going for a run! Such
an audacious woman! Like frosty Greta Garbo or macho Marlene Dietrich,
Dafne proves not to be such an easy date. She’s feisty and very quick on
her feet. Apollo’s wooing? She will have none of it. This virgin nymph
plans to stay a virgin. But Apollo has been stung by Cupid’s arrow and
is transfixed by this swift, untouchable nymph. In a chase, he follows
hot on her heels, ultimately seizing her in a victorious embrace. But he
is too late. The chaste nymph has transformed into something that no
longer wears a skirt. Featuring Maeve Hoglund and Douglas Williams as Apollo and Dafne.
LA VOIX HUMAINE
April 20 and 21 PONY presents one of Poulenc's most riveting works about a woman on the edge of insanity. Staged by the cutting edge Australian director Paul Peers.
What We Need & What You Get for Supporting the PONY 2012 Spring Season
We run a very tight ship at PONY. Every dollar you give goes
directly into making this event happen. From the $30 it costs for an hour of rehearsal space rental, to the $5000 it
costs to secure performance space, your donation makes
this all possible. No donation is wasted and you will see and hear your
contribution live. It's rare that New Yorkers gets to have the opportunity to directly connect
with the building of an emerging company. There is so much opera we want to bring to NY in the coming years and this is just the beginning.
Through this campaign, PONY is working to develop its base of PONY
Members who actively support new and radical ways of interpreting
opera. Become a part of this new, growing community.
Other Ways You Can Help
If contributing is not something you can do right now, we completely
get it. Don't worry! Please consider sharing the excitement you have
for this project and our season with others. From encouraging people to
donate, to expanding outreach, there are other ways you can contribute
that don't involve reaching into your wallet. Check us out on Facebook
and Twitter and chime in to the flurry of posts and tweets we spin out
on a daily basis.
