Our Story

Water is my first love. Ive always been fascinated by the oceans and everything in it. I grew up on the beaches of California, swimming surfing, snorkeling, scuba diving and feel like a fish to water. When I learned about the Great Pacific Garbage Patch, I felt the need to find out what it exactly was. In the course of researching this phenomenon, I learned that the problem is more insidious than imagined.  It is a complex issue and as someone who works in the media. with my skill set and experience, I felt it was my duty to shed light on untold stories such as this one about the Plastic Pollution in our oceans. I want this film to be tangible for everyone to understand. Why should you care about this issue? Because every single person has some element of plastic INSIDE us.

Plastic is this fantastic invention that is so ubiquitous, it seems unfathomable to live without it! But how did we get to this point? and where are we headed? In the independent documentary film, Plastic Paradise, Angela Sun travels on a personal journey of discovery to uncover the mystery of the Great Pacific Garbage Patch in one of the most remote places on earthMidway Atoll. Along the way she meets scientists, researchers, influencers, and volunteers whom shed light on the effects of our rabid plastic consumption and learns that this problem is much worse than we think.

The Impact

We would like this project to empower others to change our disposable ways. Everyone of us can make a difference and be part of the solution of our plastic pollution. You don't have to be a scientist, legislator, or activist to ignite social change. Its in our thoughts and habits where we can come together as everyday people to educate and spread awareness, making simple changes.

If this project doesn't happen, the issue will continually worsen, and there will be more media spreading one-sided views about this situation. We are trying to present the most balanced, journalistically-sound approach in covering this topic.

What We Need & What You Get

We need more than $25000 but I wanted to be modest in our first round of reaching out on indiegogo. The breakdown for this would be to raise enough money for me to get my body tested for toxins. I contacted a lab which would do it, but its going to be at least $5000 to do all the lab work and set up the tests.  There are a few more shoots to interview experts where travel expenses would be involved, and I am budgeting around $5000, for camera crew, travel, equipment etc. The next $8000 would go towards licensing for music and footage. This is not the full budgeted amount, but will get the ball in motion. The last $7000 will go towards post production costs and to secure a graphics package. This is not enough money for a full graphics package but at least its a start. There are many more expenses and this is not the full budget.

We are looking into other funding sources and reaching out to donors, but we want to engage the online community of supporters in the creation of this documentary. This is my first documentary and I am thrilled to be able to share in that process with you. There has been countless hours of blood, sweat, and (many) tears poured into this passion project; I am so grateful for any support.
