Pirats Art Network Project

Promoting the arts in digital spaces

Pirats Crowdfunding 2012

Our Story

Some of you know Pirats Art Network, because we have a strong communication, both inside and outside Second Life as on Facebook, YouTube, Dailymotion, MySpace, LinkedIn and especially through our website now followed in more than 100 countries and whose visits are steadily rising.

I would pass quickly on the Second Life statistics, a group of 1,400 people, almost 20,070 unique visitors and some 170.000 TP in our galleries, openings with 90 to 200 people every Monday to see the work of more than 240 artists from around wide.

In three years Pirats Art Network made 160 exhibitions and openings, some in Real Life and Second Life, 4,800 individual arts shows, more than 13,000 art works exhibited for an international audience.

Our main strength is undoubtedly the growing number of people we attract in Second Life, which came first for Art, for Pirats Art Network, but still, ultimately, residents of Second Life and clients of Linden Lab.

The Impact

If this campaign doesn't happen, many artists will no longer have a place for exhibit with the strong communication that Pirats Art Network does for them.

Testimonials

Lionigaly Slartit:

Pirats I declare it to be the best european result , if not in the world, of art exhibitions in Second Life.

 Anthony Jacob:

This news makes me very sad, and most appreciative for all you have done for the artists of Second Life. Thank you, my dear friends.

 Annette Chust:

Oh, that is so sad to read! I always loved it to have exhibitions there with you all and to see so many other artists there.

 Maya Paris:

So sorry to hear this news, you have done such wonderful work in SL. A HUGE thank you to you both.

 LeMelonrouge PuntCom:

Of course, i don't like these news. All my support, so Pirats cannot disappear!

 Marnie Reinard:

How sad and again second life looses a important group of people who make sl what it is.

 Orlando Castro Ortiz:

Wao, very sad for this news, not is posible.

 FreeWee Ling:

This is a tragedy. A terrible loss to all who value creativity and imagination. Something must be done to stop the exodus of such dedicated servants to art.

 Steve Hess:

Keep it open -- it's a collective of talent and artistic expression which is slowly dying in Second Life.

 Marie Wattre:

I am an artist Pirats, I like their work on sl. Many artists work with them. Thanks to them, SL is important for artists and creativity. Thank you for allowing them to continue their business

 Karima Hoisan:

I urge Linden Lab to help keep Pirats' doors open. Pirats must continue to be the showcase, that it has always been in the past, the inspirational gathering place for so many truly talented artists and art lovers from all over the world.

 Yoku Tison:

pls let the pirats be on air its important 2 have them in here 4 the future, Phil!

 Cat Boccaccio:

Pirats elevated the standard of SL's creative community and the end of Pirats would be a great loss to the culture and the prestige of Second Life.

 Fragile Bing:

gardez ouvert l'espace d'art, il est important de défendre les lieux d'expression

 Kimm Paulino:

SL gives a huge number of people the chance to experiment with their artistic side. People who would never get this chance in RL. Organisations such as PiRats are vital in giving these people an outlet for achieving this "second chance", which, at the end of the day, is a large part of what SL is really about. Art is their imagination come to life. PiRats gives them a world in which to do it by providing venue, community and audience. For these artists, PiRats, and similar venues, are prime examples of "Their World, Their Imagination" in action.

 CADEL:

I love pirats !!!!!!!

 Luciella Lutrova:

im a real life artist, and Pirats helped me to show my art, to many people of all the world, and i had the pleasure of knew artwork of many artist from differents parts of the world, is really magic !!, and at the same time, is many people that have not oportunity of see art in rl, and here they can . is a real way of diffund culture, and Pirats do it

 Laëtitia Buton:

We must do all the best we can to save PiRats, someting must be done absolutly. I'm proud to be a PiRat Lady.

 La Baroque:

Pirats can't die because it is the place of wonder and creativity

 Graine Macbain:

The slow death of SL art must be stopped! Please don't allow any more of these losses.

 Tani Thor:

One group that has most promoted art in sl can not close. We fight because it does not happen.

 La Baroque:

Pirats can't die because it is the place of wonder and creativity

 Rafale Kamachi:

Artistic endeavours such as PiRats are a great and cheap advertisement for SL. It would make sense to keep their sim running.

 Albatroz Hird:

Seeing a so involved non-profit association for Art promotion dying on SL because Linden Lab don't want to reduce their benefit is a shame.

 Briawinde Magic:

Pirats offers a venue to artists from around the world showing the works of some of the most creative people in both RL and SL. The art is enjoyed by many in SL, not just by other artists. As such Pirats is an important venue and has helped to promote SL as the premier virtual world for the arts. To lose Pirats would be a blow,,not just to artists from around the world but to the entire SL community.

 Lollito Larkham:

It's a pity pirats can't have aland with low fee after all they've done for traffic in sl and art expression in virtual worlds, specially second life.

 Cherry Manga:

Second Life metavers needs people like Pirats members to show what wonders are possible, sharing art, creativity, cultures, friendships, it is a model for Linden Lab and it's a shame to ask residents to pay so much as they offer a lot to the community.

 Luis Vasconcelos:

Pirats Art Network is a very important way to promote art in Second Life. We ALL need it to continue it's work. Please help us to honnor and to save this project.

 Bouffort Remi:

i'm really disappointed to see pirats disappear as this !

 Dividni Shostakovich:

Comments: Few venues have supported the challenging, innovative work of so many. Linden Labs needs to reverse its decision to raise tiers for nonprofit and educational organizations, and find ways to keep the creative people and the people who underwrite their existence from being forced out of Second Life. People like these are the ones who make virtual worlds an exciting place.

 Eve Kazan:

"L'art naît de contraintes, vit de luttes, et meurt de libertés." André Gide (merci google) Hope Linden Lab will understand that Art can be more beautiful than money ...

 Maryva Mayo:

Pirats must not die !! As Einstein said, "Art is the expression of the Simplest Deepest Thoughts In The Way" ... Pirats all these years has made visible the art in SL and RL, and helped many artists. I am very saddened at the thought that all this will end! Linden needs to understand that art, it is true that does not lead to them, directly gains, but it is a source of indirect income, attracting many people. If not, .. because many artists are contacted by other Virtual Worlds, .. with offers of land, Sim free, to create art events, which attract many people, .. both in the Web and in virtual worlds?

 Bau-Ur Secundum:

PiRats are a buoyant community of creators and art appreciators who demonstrate the very best of which Second Life is capable. Its steady leaders have developed an international community with both real-life and virtual presence.

PiRats members are connected by both shared activity and social fellowship -- exactly the formula which, Linden Lab's own research shows, is most likely to keep residents in SL. As such, the PiRats are a considerable economic asset to Linden Lab.

Moreover, PiRat galleries are run with the discernment, civility, attentiveness, and high standards of which any real-life gallery should be proud.

As a tremendous aesthetic and creativity-promoting asset to Second Life, the PiRats are perfect candidates for a free region from the Linden Endowment for the Arts.

I sincerely hope that a region will be granted to the PiRat owners so that they can save up resources for a year to continue PiRats thereafter. Keeping the PiRats in Second Life at the cost of simply granting them a region would be a terrific bargain for Linden Lab.

 Scott Rolfe:

I have had the privilege of showing at Pirats many times, and has always been a positive experience. It has served as a hub for artists all over the world to show and to meet. You have all done a great job and it will be sorely missed.

 Kristine Schomaker:

Pirats has been an amazing force in the SL art community. It has been wonderful showing with them. It will be a shame if they have to go. The whole team at pirats rock!!! The raise the bar for any other virtual galleries or art organizations in SL!!!

 PralineBarjowski Ghost:

Too bad ! What really wants LL ? To let PIRats close is a tragedy at many levels! I hope you will not give up ! and at last, other grids exist !!

 Tracie Zenovka:

I hope Linden Lab will recognise the valuable dimension organisations like Pirats add to Second Life. Pirats provides opportunities for artists to expose their work to a wider audience. This gives people like me art to look at that I would never otherwise find. And SL benefits from having a wholesome side it can promote.

 Quan Lavender:

It would be a great loss for the art world in SL

 Daniele DACO Costantin:

if this is true, I am very sorry ... but we all now think of giving birth to something new, or continue in a new way, W Pirats
