Personalized URL Shortener
Our Story
?.com is a domain name with a purpose. I like to take domain names and develop them, and I didn't know the purpose of this one when I got it several years ago, but I do now.
With a little help from some smart friends, we're going to build ?.com into a personalized URL shortener that you can use on Twitter and other sites.
Here's how it works. Say your Twitter name is 'You'. Then, your basic, personalized URL shortener would look like this:
?.com/You
This basic URL shortener links to anything that shows you at your best, like your blog, your resume, your Facebook or Linkedin page, the website of your business, you get the idea. Then, when you want to create a shortened link, you can create descriptive links like these:
?.com/You_GoldDeal
These would go to a cute cat picture you found somewhere, or a special your business is running.
Or, if you just want a generic link, it could look like this:
As you can see, these links catch the eye, and stand out from the other URL shorteners. Go ahead and try them, paste them into your browser. We have the basic system working, we just need some help to finish it.
Every link you create has your Twitter name built in, which helps make you more popular when you get retweeted. Plus, it has your basic URL shortener built in, which links to the site that describes you best.
It leaves more characters for your Tweet since ?.com is the shortest .com domain name, and because you can put words into the link that would normally be in the Tweet.
And, since it is a .com, it won't be subject to potential politcal disruption like other URL shorteners that are based on country code domains like .ly (Libya) and .co (Columbia).
But wait, there's more!
You will also get statistics to see how many times your links were clicked on, and you will be able to edit and delete your links too, if you like. And, the ?.com website will have Number One as its theme, listing your basic URL shortener with a description of you (if you want to be listed), and will have other Number One related content.
Technically, ?.com is an IDN graphical domain name, which means there is no '?' key on the keyboard. We have set up http://OneInACircle.com as the name you can type into a browser to get to ?.com. Twitter has displayed it in various ways over the last several years, and Twitter has its own URL shortener too. But, your basic shortener, ?.com/You without the 'http://', will always display on Twitter and other sites.
What We Need & What You Get
We need help to complete the development of ?.com. To make sure that our system is robust enough to handle the traffic and other demands of a URL shortener, we looking to raise $10,000, which also lets us build the ?.com website and address security concerns, too
Here's what you get when you contribute $10: A lifetime of personalized URL shortening pleasure.
We will set up your own personalized URL shortener that incorporates your Twitter name. You will be to create customized links that describe the content you are linking to, or just generic links, too. You will also get taffic statistics for your links, and the ability to edit and delete links, too. That's the basic package we know we can deliver.
Here is the timing for the rollout of the ?.com URL shortener. As soon as you contribute, we can set up your basic shortener, for example, ?.com/You. You will be able to use this shortened link to point to your blog, Facebook, Linkedin, business, or other site. You won't be able to create other shortened links yet, or see statistics or do edits. That's why we are raising money, to complete that development. And, if you happen to abuse your URL shortener by spamming or linking to malware type sites, we reserve the right to revoke your shortener.
We do have plans to build more interesting and useful features into ?.com, so we hope to exceed our goal, which would let us pursue those plans. We want to live up to the name itself, and be the Number One URL shortener on earth.
What the heck, call us bold, but ultimately, our real goal is to be the Number One URL shortener in the whole universe. We'll take on those darn extra terrestrials. We've heard that they have pretty good URL shorteners, but we think we have a better one. After all, ours is Number ?, and Number ? is universal!
Other Ways You Can Help
So if you like our concept, we would appreciate it if you would contribute, and then spread the word to your family and friends. Give our URL shorteners as gifts, pass them out as work perks, follow us at http://Twitter.com/OneInACircle, just do anything you can to let everyone know that they are Number One. Remember, we only work with Twitter names, so let all you Twittering friends know.
And if you want to contribute more than $10, we've set up higher amounts so that you can get multiple URL shorteners, or if you just want to contribute more because you are feeling generous and like what we're doing. Thanks.
