Our Story

We are Pentacle and we support the Los Angeles area dance community by offering critically needed infrastructure support to small and mid-sized contemporary dance companies and individual choreographers.   We have been in the forefront of non-profit arts administration for over 35 years.  Our newest Los Angeles-based project, Back Office, addresses head on the constant challenge faced by dance companieshaving enough organizational hands to support them in their creative process.  Dance Companies need help with production, marketing, and administration.  All that back office work without, which no concerts could take place.  The money we receive will go towards paying a shared administrative team who works with the four dance companies to help with essential tasks including:  marketing, production logistics, fundraising, rehearsal and tour scheduling, and other administrative details.

The Impact

Our project, Back Office, provides what dance makers need most:  freedom from the administrative mire so that they may create inspiring works of art and ongoing organizational support and guidance to nurture their creative process. The impact we create is different in that we support artists by stimulating innovative thinking and new models to get their work out there.  Back Office came about as a need expressed by our community of Artists.  They expressed that there was more administrative work than they could handle, that it was leading to burn out and they did not have the resources to hire an experienced Administrator to help them.  By hiring a part-time administrator and dividing this person's time in four, Back Office is creating a shared staffing and resource model.  The participating groups are at a point in their career where having this support is providing just the leverage they need to move to the next step in their Artistic Lives--something that is important not only as an individual dancer but for the entire dance community.

What We Need & What You Get

We seek $5000 to support four small dance companies management so that they may create and produce their work during the 2011-2012 season.  These four companies are coming together and Pentacle is hiring one part-time Managing Director--something they each need but are not able to afford individually.  Your contribution will subsidize the Artists' contribution.  The Managing Director will work with each group for 20 hours per month to help them to achieve their individual goals--touring, site-specific work on Desire and bringing Latina performers together for performance.

Be a part of creating a new way individual choreographers and small dance companies can get the much needed assistance they need so that the community can enjoy their works of Art.

As a builder of the Back Office your contribution is tax-deductible to the fullest extent of the law (and there are some neat perks too!)

All donors will receive a thank you on Pentacles social media outlets and all donations are tax deductible to the fullest extent allowed by law.

Not in LA?  The tickets offered in our perks make a great holiday gift for your friends out West!
