Our Story
Hi! My name is Caitlin and I started an organization called Penpal Mentors.
Penpal Mentors is designed for people who are struggling with bullying, depression, LGBT issues, loneliness, etc., as well as for people who just want a pal. A penpal mentor's purpose is to cheer someone up via snail mail. Mentors send frequent letters (which include things like pictures, CDs, small dollar store items, recipes etc.) and maintain correspondence with their pals.
The Impact
The "It Gets Better" campaign has had a vast, positive impact on people struggling with depression, loneliness, LGBT issues, and bullying. However, more can be done. The penpal program provides an outlet for tribulations and daily hardships. Writing can be a creative release and, in this case, it can help people feel less alone and, in despair, less unique.
Why We Need Support
More than anything else, the organization needs to stay afloat. Joining the penpal program is free; thus, there are several people on the list. Right now, the program has 3 mentors who each maintain correspondence with a bunch of penpals. The mentors could use funds and support for the time and energy that they invest in the project.
We need your help to keep things running, especially through the next few crucial months of our growth. The program has made it this far with your support, and we truly believe that by putting all of our energies toward these efforts we will soon be able to support ourselves while continuing to reach many people worldwide.
