Our Story

My name is Perry Wilson, I am a Photographer and Cinematographer in Fort Myers Florida. I am also the designer of the PW Cage. 

The Impact

Cinematography is getting more and more accessible to the general public. In the past few years companies have been releasing products like the digital SLRs; hidden among these great cameras is the Panasonic GH2. The GH2 was, until lately, considered the underdog of the digital cinematography industry. Since its release date in February 2011, the GH2 has been viewed as a consumer camera that lacks the professional quality and data rates of its competitors, such as the Cannon 5D and 7D.

The introduction of PTools and high bit rate patches by designers such as Nicholas Driftwood and Chris Brandin have recently caused a spike in the cameras popularity. With these free upgrades, the GH2 surpasses its competitors in not only image quality but also filmic cadence. According to users, with the upgrades, the camera even rivals RED Digital Cinema Cameras in HD delivery.

The Panasonic GH2 was designed first and foremost as a consumer camera, which is great for people looking for a lightweight replacement for its heavier, professional DSLR competitors. However, it does not deliver for the users looking for the professional cinema-like build quality that they have come to know. One of the most important things for cinematographers and DPs is the ability to mount accessories on the camera and also provide lens support to reduce the rolling shutter issues with digital SLRs. Many companies have introduced cage solutions for SLRs but all of which are still priced with the professional cinematographer in mind. 

I Would Like to Introduce to You the New PW Cage

The PW Cage is a low priced solution designed by Florida cinematographer Perry Wilson. The cage was designed with the general public in mind. The PW Cage design is based on ideas from Personal-View members and takes its inspiration from similar products that are already on the market; however, it has been redesigned from the ground up with accessibility and modularity in mind. 

The PW Cage will be produced in Florida, USA from inch thick, anodized black, cast 535 aluminum alloy. All holes are industry standard spaced, This way you can mount the cage with any universal rail blocks of your choice(cinevate). It is equipped with:

• Threaded holes in 2 sizes:
• 3/8 16 (Arri)
• 20 (RED, Universal)
• Access windows for:
• Battery
• Monitor
• Top button layouts
• SD Card

These are limited run cages. Once the IndieGoGo is over its over. 

PW Cages will be sold at near cost. Similar cages are being sold close to $700 shipped to the US after import taxes. By bypassing these taxes and making them local, we have been able to get the price down to $250 plus shipping. The only way we can get them at this amazing price is by receiving a minimum of 50 orders and ordering in quantity. 

These cages will be sold through IndieGoGo by using the All or Nothing system. This way its fair for everyone. If we dont receive 50 cage orders, no one will be charged. There will be more products made in the future such as HDMI clamps, shoulder supports, grips, and eventually products for other great cameras such as the 7D, 5D, etc. They will all be limited run and sold through this same system.

Once the Campain is over, if we have reached our goal, The cages go into production. You will then receive your finalized cage in 4-6 weeks. If we do not reach our goal we will refund the donations. But if we get within $2500 of our goal the cages WILL be produced.
