The Film

PRIMA is short film about a young dancer whose blooming career is abruptly ended by a back injury. She is then forced to cope with the loss of her lifelong dream.

I'm sure at some point in your life, you've had to let go of something important - whether it's a dream, a person, or a relationship. This film deals with those themes, particularly the consequences of not letting go.

The Crew

Miguel Luis Calayan (writer/director_ is a film student based in San Francisco who is mainly a cinematographer and documentary filmmaker. He has won the award for Best Documentary at the Epidemic Film Festival held at the Castro Theatre last April 2010.

Shannon Roberts (lead actress) is a professional dancer who has had 16 years of experience. She has danced all over the globe including France, Iceland, China, Denmark, and the United States. She currently dances for SF Ballet. She has been acting since age 11, and continues to further her craft by taking classes at ACT.

Rob Blake (producer) is a short film director from Woodland, CA who has directed and produced a number of short films such as The Tale of Mr. Ucitizic. He is currently working on a feature called The House Sitter.

Danielle Busque and Carina Berlin are also on board as costume designer and production designer, respectively.

We are a young group filled with excitement and creativity. We feel that this project may be our shot at breaking into the festival circuit.

What we need

We are aiming to shoot on February 21st, 2011 and we need funds. We have all the equipment ready. Hopefully shooting on the RED (for those who don't know, it's the same camera used to shoot District 9, Book of Eli, and The Social Network). Grip and lighting are also good to go.

The money is going to paying the actress, location fees (shooting at the Alonzo King LINES studio in downtown SF), costume design, production design, and also film festival submission fees.
