WHO WE ARE
HISTORY
The three co-founders of PIECE
Theatre each hold a unique journey from New Haven to New York.
One moved to Japan to study Theatre
and led a successful transition from actor to director before finishing his
degree. Another forwent the degree altogether, moved into the tech room of the
world famous LIVING Theatre, and grounded his acting career in the deep roots
of activism. And the third finished his degree early and travelled the world
a playwright moonlighting as a volunteer vagabond eventually creating drama
education programs for the youth in both South Africa and the South Pacific.
During their journeys, these three
New Haven boys kept in touch and continued searching for opportunities to
collaborate on theatre projects. As a result, before the formation of PIECE
Theatre, they had tested their bonds, beliefs and aspirations by collaborating
in three off-Broadway productions of original work. The 2011-2012 season
will be the first they share together, firmly united under a single banner.
PIECE Theatre is a New York City
based Theatre Company that exists to create new works about our shared
humanity.
MISSION
PIECE is an ensemble-based theatre company located in New
York City. We are dedicated to the exploration and innovation of storytelling
because we believe expression binds our fragmented humanity. It is through
consistent and collaborative endeavors to share stories with each other that we
attempt to piece ourselves together. PIECE Theatre creates new works, while
running storytelling education programs for both children and adults, with a
clear mission: to always trust the theatrical process as it illuminates the
puzzle of our existence one piece at a time.
OUR PROJECT
Since its inception in 2007, we have
performed this play in art galleries, parks, cemeteries, living rooms, public
access television stations, and off-Broadway theaters.
PIECE Theatre is proud to bring CRACKED
(Upon a Time) back to New York City.
With your help, CRACKED (Upon a
Time) will finally have the
showcase we believe it deserves: a two week run this October at TheaterLab - Manhattans premiere theatre salon for experimental theatre.
CRACKED (Upon a
Time)

Three chairs sit at the foot of a graveyard. Alfred's chair,
Percy's chair, and the Death Seat. Alfred, an older man, is writing into a
large black leather bound book. But in the end it is Percy, an old man, who
labors upon the blank page. In the Game of Life the potent ramblings and
hysterical bickering between these ancient companions explore memory, allusion,
love, luck, fear, trust, choices to be made, time to be passed, and the desire
to avoid ending before they conclude that - EVERYMAN MUST GO THROUGH LIFE ON
HIS OWN.
