THE STORY

A two friends’ film intended for YouTube reveals a peculiar tale, when "James"(James Davenport) stumbles across an old tunnel running under the city. Being curious and adventurous, he forces his friend "Harry"(Alexander John Curry) to join him in his decent underground. "James" proceeds with his attempt to scare "Harry" and subsequently his followers on YouTube with made-up stories. 

 

Coming across a metal gate, locked with a rusty padlock, “James” needs to feed and satisfy his curiosity, and goes ahead to find out. Both soon realise their horrific mistake, as the tunnel’s hidden secret unfolds with a creeping shadow of someone–or something—following them.

 

"Outsiders" is a moralistic horror film, breaking the generic conventions while pointing out the evil in humanity, a race of those well known to jump to conclusions about somebody based on their appearances or background without taking time to get to know them.

 

LOCATION

The film sets itself in the VICTORIA TUNNEL in Newcastle-Upon-Tyne that runs for several kilometres under the city. It was originally built in the 1800s as a wagon way to transport coal from a quarry to the river, but was later converted into an air raid shelter during WW2 and housed 9000 people in horrifically cramped damp and claustrophobic conditions. The tunnel was then sealed after until recently when the council started out restoring and preserving the tunnel.

 

SOUNDTRACK

We are working alongside Film and TV composer SEGUN AKINOLA to develop an original and unique sound track to accompany out film. He composed the music that will be heard in our introduction video and is truly fantastic.

 

NAME

The name OUTSIDERS is currently the working title for this film, but it is the current favourite to be used as the final choice due to its many meanings.

 

"OUTSIDERS: THE DESCENT FROM HELL" 

 

"Outsiders" refers to the two characters James and Harry who enter our monster "Charles"'s underground world. "Descent from Hell" supports the morals this film intends to show. Humanity is evil and the surface world is hell to this monster. He is an outcast, judged by his looks and appearances, but is simply human.

 

The Impact

With your help we can make this film reach its potential, everybody so far who has read the script love the morals and meaning behind its origins. With your help, we can make this film the best quality possible and push on with our intent to submit to various festivals. 

 

There is already so much interest being shown toward out film on Twitter that makes pushing for the success of this film even more worthwhile. Over the past few weeks we have had support from other film makers including "THE VICIOUS BROTHERS" (Grave Encounters) who have offered some advice regarding filming.

 

Initial Goal:

Upon completion, the film will be shown at a gala screening at the EMPIRE cinema in Newcastle along with other short films from the region. These shorts will then go on to be screened at the BFI centre in London before being nominated for the "ROYAL TELEVISION SOCIETY: STUDENT AWARD".

 

At the same time as this we will be submitting the film to various film festivals around the UK.

 

Ultimate Goal:

Through entering film festivals, we hope to be able to secure interest in the concept for this film, and be able to push it further. Ultimately, we would be aiming to strike a deal with investors to be able to adapt this short film into a full feature length film.

 

What We Need

We have now reached a stage in production were we know the total budget that is required, and where it will all be going. As it is with all films our location demands the largest part of our budget. But after extensive location scouting and negotiations, we firmly believe that this tunnel is the best location for this film, and the trust who manage it are enthusiastic and are working with us to keep the costs to a minimum.

 

We will be using the tunnel for up to a week, and this will include paying the wages of 2 guides who will have to be with us at all times in case of emergences, and the use of emergency equipment such as gas/air meters, and on hand breathing equipment.

 

Another large chuck of our budget will be going to the make up department who will be creating us a very nice and convincing looking monster(Nick Burnham). This make up will include contact lenses, prosthetic growths, and joint disfigurements. A set of broken and decaying teeth will be attached, and fake claw will also replace fingernails.
