Our Story
Introducing The Out of Site Photo Book Projectwhere ten years of student work comes alive. The book will feature over 75 pages of photos taken by the students of the Out of Site Youth Arts Centera free multi-disciplinary arts after-school program for San Francisco public high school students.
Out of Site provides a place for San Francisco public high school students to experiment in the arts, and find their voices, independence and community. The photo class is old school, using 35 mm cameras and the magic of the darkroom. In this age of digital and speed, our students are learning to slow down, look harder, and make work that is deep, challenging and inspiring. For many of our students this is their first art class, and their first time to think outside the box: What do they care most about? What do they feel needs to be said? With a working photographer, who is passionate about working with youth, by their side, they are developing photographic and life skills.
As Out of Site enters our 10th year as an organization, we're venturing out to sort through our decade-thick archive and compile selected works into a professional quality photo book. The Photo Book Project will bring to life the student's voices and the transformative power of capturing images. The book will be curated by Out of Sites photography programs lead teaching artist, Maggie Preston.
The Impact
What We Need & What You Get
We're looking to raise $5000 to help get this project off the ground.
Funding for this project will go toward the production of the book and enable us to give it to our students at a low cost. Proceeds from the sale of the book will go towards supporting the photography program at Out of Site (which is a project of The Tides Center, a nonprofit organization).
What do you get for giving? Warm fuzzies and a slew of other fun things pending the level of contribution (mind you, everything is greatly appreciated!).
Other Ways You Can Help
