A little about us...
A little about us...
Hi,
Thanks for giving us your
time to explain why we need your help. "We" being four
young film makers that have been doing everything in our power to try
and forge a career in the film industry. There's Keith and David Lynch, the Co-Writer/Directors and the Producers, Simon Thomas and Ed Barratt. Any other filmmakers out there
will know how hard it can be. The journey is made easier by the fact
that the four of us are close mates, two are brothers in fact.
We started off making music videos for local bands, using a borrowed digital camcorder. Pretty soon we were pitching on music videos for bands that had a bit of a budget. We have always put the entire budget up on the screen, choosing quality over financial reward and maintaining day jobs to keep afloat. And it didnt matter, we did it for the love of it, if youll pardon the soppy sentiment. This continued when we moved into narrative short film. Unfortunately not having the equivalent of a record label to fund our short films they have always been on a shoestring budget and have therefore suffered in one way or another. This is not due to lack of help from friends and family, we owe favours to almost all of them. All of this help has not been in vain. For going on three years now we have been developing a feature film called "Trilogy". With a combination of hard work, help and luck we have managed to attract the interest of an established production company to help make our film a reality.
The problem is that in order for us to go about raising the finance for our feature film "Trilogy", we need to prove our ability by making a professional short film. To do this we will need professional actors, crew, equipment and locations. And unfortunately we need that troublesome thing that doesn't grow on trees... money!
Our feature film...
So I should probably tell you a bit about our feature film. "Trilogy" is a non-linear, neo-noir, psychological-thriller. The film traverses a three-day period of time from the point of view of three different characters. It just so happens that these three characters inhabit the same body. The film has an intricate plot of twists and turns, leading the audience down one road before it veers off somewhere you never anticipated. It's very much a commercial film with an arthouse twist, both challenging and accessible.
Our short film...
Now on to the short film... As mentioned before, your money will be used to make our experimental short film "Ouroboros". Ouroboros is a split-screen short film which takes place whilst London, and specifically its financial institutions, are trapped in the throes of terrorist attacks. The top half of the screen focuses on a Bomb Disposal Technician seemingly disarming a bomb, whilst in the bottom half the woman we assume to be his wife gives birth in the cafeteria of the financial institution where she works; her only aid is a nervous workman - a man who could in some way be responsible for the attacks that have shook the capital. The two halves are intertwined, contrasting and complimenting each other in character, plot, themes and visual style each will aid us in taking our audience on a journey that twists and turns.
We are scraping together a small amount of money through selling some equipment but this leaves us far short of our goal. If you can help us raise the money we need to get our project off the ground we will be eternally grateful.
The Impact...
The impact of raising the money we need to make the short film would simply be huge to us. Everything we have been working towards will be in vain if we don't have the funds to make this short to the calibre we are capable of. Truth be told you can have the best script around, but unless you have something to prove your ability people just won't give you the money needed for a feature (and rightly so). If we can raise the money to make a top quality short our goal is to go take it to the Cannes Film Festival 2011. There we can meet those with the finance we need for our feature and show them what we can do.
If we can't make the short in time for Cannes then we miss a huge opportunity. Cannes is the perfect opportunity to approach the people with the finance face to face. Naturally you can imagine that passion for a project comes across in person far better than any cold email can provide. We have absolute faith that our feature film will get people interested, we want to have a fantastic short to seal the deal.
What We Need & What You Get...
We hope to raise US$8000 (approx UK5000) through IndieGoGo, allowing us to feed everyone, cover everyones travel, hire the locations and costumes, and make sure we are insured properly. The crew and the equipment are coming on a begging and borrowing but not a stealing basis. Weve already attached sought after DOP Ross McLennan to the project and are calling in every favour we can to make this short film happen. Well be working with the best crew and equipment on the market and are therefore hopeful of working with the best cast. We hope to scrape together another couple of grand to bring our budget up to around the US$10000 mark.
Here's a basic breakdown of how your generous donations will be spent:
Cast fees: deferred
Crew fees: deferred
Locations: 1500 (approx. $2430)
Costumes: 500 (approx. $810)
Art department materials/props: 500 (approx. $810)
Make Up Materials: 50 (approx. $81)
Equipment hire & stock: 1300 (approx. $2106)
Parking, petrol, vehicle hire, travel expenses: 350 (approx. $567)
Catering: 500 (approx. $810)
Post Production Facilities: 1100 (approx. $1782)
Insurance: 300 (approx. $486)
Total: 6100 (approx. $9880)
No matter how much we raise, every penny pledged through IndieGoGo will be used solely for the short film, even if we have to pull a Robert Rodriguez and sell our body to medical science to make up the short fall - our film will get made.
We would be grateful that if you do decide to donate that you ideally do it through PayPal as that frees up the funds immediately. With credit and debit cards we have to wait until the campaign finishes. Of course if you prefer to use your credit or debit card then that's totally fine as well!
