Our Story
What did you dream of as a child? Who did you think you would become? Where did life actually take you?
My name is Patrick Stark, and I am a filmmaker exploring these universal questions, and reluctantly facing my own fears in pursuit of an answer.
My entire life, I have been afraid of singing - in school during Christmas concerts, among friends - even in front my own family.
Essentially, I have been afraid of my own voice and the potential of ridicule from anyone who might hear my feeble attempts at carrying a tune.
The paradox is that I have also been fascinated by those who are seemingly not afraid to sing in front of others and who are ultimately idolized by millions - the rock star.
One Life No Regrets is my attempt to push past fear and SING, from vocal lessons and singing on the street with street musicians, to learning one-on-one with actual rock stars and writing and recording an original song. The ultimate challenge? Singing on stage in a stadium full of people with one of the biggest bands in the world, Irish supergroup, U2.
Throughout the film, we will also hear from many others, from all walks of life - the homeless, heads of major corporations, students of all ages, actors, singers, etc.
The Impact
This film is not meant to preach to the audience, but simply pose the question...are you living the life you've always dreamed of? If not, why? What's stopping you?
It is a film that confirms that you are not alone in asking these questions of yourself - how many people are actually pursuing that childhood dream? Or any dream at all, for that matter?
What We Need & What You Get
We have been self-funding this project from the beginning mostly from money raised by a small concert poster distribution business, but now we have to step up our game.
We are intensely planning my attempt to sing with U2 in Seattle, June 4, and that involves a lot of preparation, multiple trips back and forth from Vancouver during this prep stage, many days of filming to record the process, building a bigger film crew from Seattle, accommodation, and staging a much bigger performance of U2 songs in the streets to get the band's attention (hiring of a small symphony and Gospel choir - don't want to give too much away here!).
It is not going to be easy, and a modest budget of $15,000 will get us there. It is alot of money, but filmmaking is expensive. We don't expect a contribution with simply the joy of "helping out" - we have perks for all levels of contribution!!
Even the most modest contributions add up quickly! Every contribution will receive a thank you credit in the film, with increased numbers of perks for bigger donations!
