Art is most vibrant and interesting when you happen
upon it in unexpected places like at the bus stop or while getting your haircut.
This multimedia work was developed with that spirit in mind. Part of the project takes the form of a newspaper that will be distributed free around Manhattan. There will also be a gallery show at a barber shop with a performance haircut at the opening reception.
The Opening Reception and Performance will be held on:
April 21st from 5:30-8:30pm
at CityLife Barbers
(9th ave, btwn 22nd st and 23rd st in Manhattan)
This collaborative work between ten artists has been in development for over a year and a half. It consists of a newspaper, a website, a video, a performance piece, photographs, stories and drawings that all explore the line between the subject, the artist and the viewer, within a work of portraiture. To view some of the content of the work please visit onportraiture.com
Artist List: Pamela Bingcang, Mike Darby, Dan Funderburgh, Kristen Kendrick, David Lipp, Ken Morton, Ben Peterson, Austin Sakong, Sara Sowers, Travis Simon
By contributing to this project you will help put something exciting into the everyday life of the city. The money raised will go towards printing fees and other costs related to putting together the gallery show and opening reception.
If think it is interesting project please drop us a line and comment on the project and let others know about the campaign. Any help is greatly appreciated and we look forward to seeing you at the opening!

Curators note: As a designer and artist I develop collaborative art projects that address art in pubic in different ways. A recent successful project, Wearing Whitman's Words, brought limited edition t-shirt designs from nine artists to the walls of a gallery in Red Hook. I was able to give t-shirts of the work to everyone who came to the opening through fund-raising and in-kind donation.
