Our Story
My name is Petronia Paley and I am an actor/playwright/director. I wrote On the Way To Timbuktu because I had to. I needed to create a unique American-African woman unlike any I'd seen, been offered, or played. I needed to release a part of my creative spirit that I had not owned or recognized as a valid and necessary voice. On The Way To Timbuktu is a multi-media one woman performance play that uses live music, projections and Shakespear's sonnets to explore the world of a college professor in a psychic breakdown. In additon to that story, I had to tell the story of yet another mysterious and unknown woman of color who fascinated, gripped and would not turn me loose. My play deals, with gender issues, sexuality, racism, and love's vagaries. It is the story of three involved in a love triangle without compromises.
The Impact
My first indiegogo campaign was a steep learning curve adventure. On my way to fundraising, I learned a great deal and had some success (my heart felt thanks to all of you who heard my plea and generously donated). But the journey to production continues. Let me tell you what was a very positive outcome of my first campaign--I've booked a theatre and have sheduled 9 performances for February 2012! I also have a fundraising event planned for December. I hope to see you there. That February deadline looms large and I have a long way to go. I urgently need you and your support now!
