one filmmaker + over one million photographs + 5.6k animation on custom-built computers in a basement = Outside In
HOW YOU CAN HELP
This fundraising campaign is to fund the film's production through the end of this year. The
funds will be use for production, animation, storage upgrades and
presenting "in-production" footage at the Giant Screen Cinema Expo which is CRITICAL for film's success. We
need to raise the first $6,000 in 9 days and the next $7,000 in 30
days to meet all the deadlines or risk hurting the film's chances.
The breakdown of funds required for 2011 are:
- GSCA Registration, Travel, Film Screening Fees and promotional costs: $5,950
- Film-out to 15/70mm (IMAX film) of 4 minutes of footage: $7,000
- Storage Upgrades (25 Terabytes): $5,000
IMPORTANT NOTE: The Diamond, Platinum and Co-Producer perk levels have been reduced up to 50% just for this IndieGoGo campaign. Great way to get extra perks but only a limited number available.
Also, due to the film being non-profit, Paypal donations are not a legal option. But because the film is a non-profit, this insures donations are only spent 100% directly on the film.
THE FILM (In Memory of Carl Sagan and Stanley Kubrick)
Outside In is a non-profit giant-screen film
that takes audiences on a journey of the mind, heart and spirit from
the big bang through the history of the universe and humanity via the Cassini-Huygens Mission at
Saturn. Currently in production after years of development, Outside In
aims for global distribution late next year. The release of the first one minute of footage from the film went viral this spring, resulting in 3.2 Million hits and global media coverage in over 200 countries.
Until someone actually puts a high-definition IMAX camera on an
interplanetary probe, Stephen van Vuurens fly-through of the Saturnian
system may stand as one of the most ambitious non-profit efforts to
create a virtual spaceflight using real images.

The result is a seamless journey that is spectacular in its
originality and otherworldliness, perhaps even rivaling the majesty of
Stanley Kubricks timeless 2001: A Space Odyssey.
(Daily Mail Online, UK)
Composed entirely of actual photographs from space missions, astronomers, telescope and vast historical sources animated using innovative visual techniques developed by the filmmaker, Outside In
stretches the boundaries of the motion picture form. The film will
feature powerful music by Ferry Corsten, William Orbit, Samuel Barber
and melds non-narrative visual poetry & science documentary into a
rich experience for audiences that will feature an extensive outreach and educational plan in concert with science advocacy groups around the world.
Created from millions of still images animated to create
full motion, the film uses 2.75D photographic fly-through technology. The film
will be presented in beyond Hollywood feature film quality 5.6K resolution on massive screens
and concert-level surround systems to audiences in giant screen
institutions, IMAX theaters, planetariums, museums and select 4k digital
cinemas.
Complete details are available on the film's official website.
THE IMPACT
Outside In aims to spark interest in science, space exploration and asking the big questions of why exploration is critical to our understanding of who we are and our place in the universe. By allowing audiences to fly through real images on their own personal exploration of our universe, the goal is to give them the same sense of awe and humility that the Apollo astronauts had on seeing Earth from space, changing their perspective forever.
As Outside In already has strong interest and commitments around the world from distributors, theaters, institutions and educational/advocacy groups, the film has a guaranteed global audience to potentially reach millions of people.
Just as the publication of first picture of the whole earth from Apollo 8 helped launch the global environmental movement, our best hope for solving humanity's problems is the change in perspective that comes from exploring the cosmos and seeing Earth from the outside, in.
