Our Story

My name is Ruben C. Gonzalez and I am an actor/writer/director. Some of you may have seen me work alongside JET LI in The Master, JENNIFER LOPEZ in Selena and recently next to BENJAMIN BRATT in the award winning La Mission. Throughout my career I have always dreamed of telling stories of love and healing with talented artists I respect. Now my dreams are coming to fruition and I need your support. This summer me and some of my filmmaker family are shooting our first independent feature film, OSCAR.

OSCAR SANCHEZ has always been fascinated with the past. So much so, that it took him 4 attempts to get his History dissertation accepted. Well...it was actually gifted to him by his professor who was getting tired of rejecting Oscar year after year. Upon graduating, Oscar's girlfriend Mel convinces him to sell everything to buy a mobile home so they can live life on the open road where they would find adventure and do things differently than the Joneses. But after 3 months and 49 states, Mel decides Oscar isn't adventurous enough so she leaves him for the biker who sold them their mobile home. Oscar is left with nothing to keep him warm but a twig for a dying fire to his broken heart.

It's 9 years later and Oscar has yet to get over his heartache and he is losing his grip on life. He's teaching history and another dreadful year is coming to a close. He's at the end of his rope and is about to sink when one day, in the school mailroom, he's thrown a lifesaver. He finds himself intrigued by the new Biology teacher, Misha, a recluse herself, who finds solace in the world of twigs and bugs. 

In order to heal, Oscar must liberate himself into the present by cutting his ties to his wounded history. Sometimes its easier said than done. Sometimes you need a little guidance. Sometimes it's just a matter of time...and a little TLC.

The Impact

OSCAR is a sweet story about accepting the love that we have always been and embracing our need for human connection. In a time of so much war and strife, it is my purpose to bring stories of love and healing to our world. This has always been my life's mission and I would appreciate your help in bringing it to fruition. Art is important in this way. It allows us to look at ourselves and helps nurture change, giving us hope for a better understanding of each other. A multi-cultural cast will be seen in roles that are normally not seen in Hollywood. We hope through the power of media we will help humanize those we don't understand. This is very important to us as artists and in that spirit, we offer this tale of love and forgiveness. So please, come join us in this wonderful LOVE venture.

What We Need & What You Get

We have been blessed already! Doors are opening all over. All locations have been donated. We have been gifted with so much love and support from the communites of Gilroy and San Juan Bautista California. All the actors are working for peanuts or donating their talents because they believe in the mission of this film. We are looking to raise $20,000 to bring this story to life and in regards to filmmaking this is not a crazy budget but we still need your help. ALL YOUR DONATIONS will go to pay for the making of OSCAR. Monies will go to pay for crew, talent and equipment rental. EVERY single cent will go to the completion of this project. And we WILL finish this beautiful act of love!
