Nicole Volavka trained in music, dance and drama as a child, before studying Psychology and Philosophy at University. She started her film career working in Acquisitions at Miramax Films, before moving into the production side as Assistant To Director Michael Caton-Jones on the BBC Films feature Shooting Dogs in Rwanda.
She has an MA in Filmmaking from the London Film School.
Her first short film A Girls Guide To Modern Dating is a satirical romantic comedy and was shown at the Edinburgh Festival 2005.
The second short After Everything is a drama about a father-daughter relationship and was selected for screening at the National Gallery in London.
Her third short film “Survivor” was a drama based on her experiences living in Rwanda. It has shown at 9 film festivals around the world, most recently winning “Best Actor” (Shaun Parkes) and “Best Script” at the BFM Film Festival in London. The prize is to develop a feature-length script under the mentorship of the BBC Writer’s Room, so watch this space!
